you guys, intermodal trains are SO fascinating. intermodal shipping as a whole, really. it’s the name for the system of crates that get transported across the world on trains, ships and trucks. and because there’s just ONE size of container, everything moves uniformly and quickly! it’s like this really key bit of global commerce that is kind of mysterious but also ubiquitous, and enables capitalism in this very specific and critical way… so it’s also kind of evil. these trains go through our cities, across borders, oceans, and they carry all of the things we use and the materials those things are made of. a lot of intermodal trains go through my city and i just watch them and imagine what might be inside.
there’s also this really weird thomas-the-tank-engine-esque webseries that a big intermodal shipping company made: http://www.theintermodals.com/
