Happy Pride! Although ~the discourse~ makes it sound like Pride is a nonstop Berghain-style party in the streets, the truth has always been that Pride has so many more facets, especially here on Autostraddle (contribute to our pride gallery!) It’s a great time of year to revisit our history and present, like the best lesbian & gay movies or our rich history of literature.

We’ve covered so many queer books from the past and present on Autostraddle, but we know there are always so many more titles out there to be discovered, and hearing from other members about what makes a book special to them is something we can only get within community.

We want to collect information about A+ members’ favorite LGBTQ-themed books in an effort to create an indexed post of intra-community book recommendations for Pride month! We’d love to focus on books with LGBT themes by LGBT authors; other than that, genre, topic, and time period are up to you! We’re trying this for the first time, so thanks for bearing with us!

We’ll try to feature every book recommended to us – we can’t list the same book more than once, so if multiple people recommend the same book, we’ll unfortunately have to pick just one person’s thoughts on it (but we can note that it’s an extra popular recommendation!). Recommendations will be linked to Bookshop or indie stores to buy from when possible (although some rarer or out-of-print books may only be available on Amazon.) Thanks for understanding! It’s absolutely possible (and encouraged!) to use this form more than once.

We’ll be collecting submissions until June 21 to publish before the end of Pride, although we may revisit or update this post in the future!

      • Great question! I’d love for recommendations to be from personal experience reading the books, so if you have access to galleys and can make a recommendation for a forthcoming one, that’s great!

  1. I’ve tried submitting through the embedded form twice now, and the form keeps getting stuck on “Please Wait” for me!

  2. Have I submitted six titles already? You betcha.

Am I close to done? Absolutely not.

Am I sorry? Not even a little.

  3. As a self-proclaimed book nerd I am so excited for this! I just finished reading Milk Fed by Katherine Broder because of the review here (it took forever to get from the library) and it was 🔥🔥🔥.
