There are a lot of studies and research on sexy things but very few of them focus on lesbian, bisexual, queer or otherwise-identified women-who-have-sex-with-women. With the Ultimate Lesbian Sex Survey (For Lady Types Who Sleep With Lady Types), we want to change that.
It’s a multipage survey meant to find out what type of sex you’re having, how often you’re having it, what you’re doing in and out of bed alone and with partners and more. It’s meant for anyone who feels comfortable answering a survey called “The Ultimate Lesbian Sex Survey (For Lady Types Who Sleep With Lady Types).” If you have had something that could, in the most general sense, be called lesbian sex (“lesbian” in this context is an adjective describing same-sex activity between two women, not a noun describing the sexual orientations of two women having the sex), then we want to hear from you!
Answer every question according to your heart in a way that most closely reflects your experiences or just instinctively feels right.*
We’re not trying to be scientific, but to draw general conclusions to the best of our non-peer-reviewed Internet-sized abilities.**
There is just so little comprehensive information out there about queer lady sex lives that the only (and also most radical) solution is going right to the source, i.e., YOU.
Sex, gender and the things we do together naked are super complicated and always-shifting, and often it was actually impossible to figure out how to get the information we needed from this survey while keeping in mind everything we know about how you talk about sex and identity. We did our best, but if the survey doesn’t turn out to be your thing — no problem! Just stop taking it.
We’ll be sharing the results in posts in the coming weeks. (We’ll also be using them to better tailor our sex/relationships/NSFW content to what you actually want to know about, because WHY NOT.)
All individual surveys are completely anonymous and we’re not going to sell your data. The survey will remain live for a week, until Sunday, January 18th. TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
Take me to the survey!
* We know this thing isn’t perfect and can’t ask all the right questions in the right way for everyone. If you have any questions or feedback or just wanna talk about sex some time, please email carolyn [at] autostraddle dot com. We’re turning comments off on this post because there’s so much self-consciousness that goes into how these questions are answered already, we fear conversations in the comments could further skew what’s supposed to be unfiltered personal data. Unfortunately we can’t edit the survey once it’s been launched, but feedback will help us with how to interpret the data and to do better next time! Also if you have a question that requires an answer that would be helpful to all survey-takers, we’ll just add it to this post.
** Though we did have it vetted by Danii R. Da Silva, a genderqueer staff member who is a certified Sex and Sexual Health Educator through San Francisco Sex Information with over five years of professional experience in the field.
