A+ Roundtable: That Could Be a Chart

Okay, the excerpt and feature image might be dramatic, but the prompt was not. I asked the team to chart some aspect of their person or life in more or less a fun way. While our team may most often use words, for this prompt, we were all challenged to use visuals (and sometimes math) to convey meaning. I’ll simply leave you to it. HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WE HOPE YOU ENJOY!

xoxo,

Nico

  1. Oh I love this. There’s a bit of me in all of them but I relate the most to the dresses one by Vanessa

  2. Darcy are you for real reading Matrix by Lauren Groff right now or was that just an example of any book? lol I just started reading it last night and so far I’m really into it!

    • Not yet, but it’s my book club’s book this month and I think my copy arrives tomorrow! I’m excited!

  3. This is utterly delightful. As a current fellow grad student, Shea’s especially got to me, half the battle is focusing to do the darn reading! Love the creativity in all of these!

  4. heather my theory w mr darcy is that since he doesnt talk, queers and straights alike can project pretty much anything onto him until he is perfect! including darcy’s gender situation – so much possibility there.

  5. I love this and want it to be a regular feature. I love how many people said they spent a significant chunk of their mental space devoted to their dog and queer books, because same. Though I’m concerned by the downward trend in Sally’s thinking about Lesbian eBooks.

    • Your chart was hands down the best one and I was legit surprised there were any others after it because I assumed it had been saved for last!

    • Probably the people who relate most to your chart are just slower to click on a data and chart roundtable

    • It was the funniest! As someone who occasionally makes charts from spreadsheets, they’re not as easy as they look or should be. At least in Microsoft. Why are the labels so hard?!

  6. wow love this article, top article award to this article and to everyone’s charts

kayla, i do not relate to your chart but did appreciate it

  7. stef’s chart is literally what happens in my mind anytime i see them use “brother” on social media, ngl

  8. Yes charts!!! I see everyone loves a good pie chart, bonus points for Sally for being unique and Kayla for being honest

  9. about 50% of the things i crave are the same as nico’s! (financial stability for autostraddle, 30 hour days, finishing my novel)

  10. these are all delightful and now i am Chartifying my own life. today most of my brain space is tossing around potential names for a second cat

        • OK so my current cat is sharktopus aka sharky and if she gets a baby brother he’s almost definitely benedick aka benny or dickhead depending on his behavior

however have been contemplating Cat Meryl Streep to go with my car, Car Meryl Streep

and then i have an old doc with a list of names including “chipotle pronounced like aristotle” and “false dmitri IV the final threat” and “the singularity” which are all on the wild card roulette wheel

  11. I think this might be my favorite A+ thing to date, and I say this as an avid reader of every single Insider.

  12. All these charts are amazing!

I don’t know if this was intended, but I found Sally’s very moving. Right now I think a lot about “dying/dead mother” and it’s comforting to imagine I could one day transfer that brain power to “lesbian ebooks”. So thank you.

  13. I love all of these SO MUCH and I also want to say that as a teacher, this “assignment” is incredibly inspiring!

  14. This is everything. Love this so much and I especially connect to Kayla’s chart on a spiritual level.

  15. Stef, brother, I cackled!

ā€œFanfiction (in my head)ā€ A. Tony I see you and I hear you. I’ve had the same 5 unwritten fics running in my backup brain for like…10 years now.

Also, Valerie Anne, is Atthea an OC from high school? Because they have a certain *energy* that a lot of my beloved teenage creations have!
