“To L and Back” L Word Podcast Episode 213: Lacuna

It’s the Season Two finale and we’re all here to mourn a death and celebrate a birth and witness an entire live concert fundraiser for the Ms foundation! That’s right, Gloria Steinem is in the house for some very awk convos about feminism and furthernore, Tina would like to give birth in a dunk tank. Alice fears Lara’s take on the pear polenta tart might woo Dana away from her, Shane opens the car door for Carmen and later removes her orange pants for a very sexy date, the Top-Off continues and Peggy Peabody shows up to deliver the final punch and win our tiny hearts.

My Notes:

+ The L Word video in which we finance the hell out of that unit
+ The article I was referencing when I said the thing about third grade vs. third rate
+ These are the hands I have questions about:
A photo of a freeze frame of The L Work on a flat screen TV sitting on a brown wooden table. It is paused to show a series of hands (with fingernails that are far too long) intertwined. The subtitles show that a song is playing with the lyrics "Say hallelujah."
+ The lyrics to “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You” are bananas
+ Angelica Pickles
+ Holland Taylor Has a Girlfriend, Is Hopefully Writing Fabulous, Tortured Love Poems
+ A picture from the photoshoot they used a picture from in the episode, as referenced:

A black-and-white photo, featuring a Black man (wearing trousers, a button-up and tie, and a vest) locking arms with a Black woman (wearing a black skirt and white top) as they sit on a bench and stare into each others' eyes. This is a stock photo that appeared in the background of this episode of The L Word.

  1. OK, I thought Gloria Steinem was a guest on the podcast. Although that would be amazing I really enjoy it when it’s just the two of you.
Can’t wait for season three, this is my favorite podcast.

  2. I really and truly blocked out the fact that Betty was actually in SO MANY EPISODES of this show so every time they appear on my screen I start screaming internally at the universe/Ilene Chaiken. Like seriously, WHHYYYYY.

  3. So a lacuna is a gap in a text, like in a manuscript of the Bible or other ancient texts. I took it to be a metaphor for the gaps in Jenny’s memories that she’s trying to fill in.

  4. This show makes me hate my name as much as Riverdale makes me love it.

Since this episode I have now watched through season 3 and most of season 4 and feel like I’ve been hit with a mallet.
