The Women’s March on Washington: Meet Up With Other ‘Straddlers Around The World To Protest Trump

Welp. It’s happening. Donald Trump will soon be inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States of America, a sentence that makes me want to set myself on fire. Alas! I will not set myself on fire because there is still so much work to be done in this world of ours and I’m not done fighting. Probably many of you feel that way too. That’s why so many women around the world are joining up for the Women’s March on Washington and the 270+ sister/solidarity marches on January 21st. The Women’s March is co-chaired by Tamika D. Mallory, an African-American civil rights activist and gun control advocate; Carmen Perez, the executive director of Harry Belafonte’s Gathering For Justice; Linda Sarsour, the executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, and Bob Band, the CEO + Founder of Manufacture New York.

Maybe you’re marching too! Or maybe you want to march but don’t know when or how or where to get involved! Maybe you just need to find a group of people to stand beside!

That’s why we’re asking anyone who’s participating in the march with a group of people to sign up on our events page to help other queer folks find you and walk with you in solidarity.

    also: If you’re in DC between now and February 19th, go go go see ROE at Arena Stage. It’s the story of the women behind Roe v Wade (one of whom is a queer lady!), and oh what a time for this play and this story to be onstage.

  7. I’ll be out of town on January 15, the day of the march in my area. So disappointed. Attending a march/protest is one of my goals for the next four years. Everyone marching will be in my thoughts and prayers, and I will join you someday! Sending love!

  14. I’ll be marching in DC. I work for a college, and the LGBTQI student organization asked if I would go with them as their advisor. They are crocheting pussyhats this week, and we have a signmaking session on Friday. We leave the campus in Louisiana next Thursday to start driving!

  15. I have to admit I feel intimidated that he’s got a Kennedy on his side. My whole life I’ve always felt like I had a soft side with the Kennedy’s. Now I’m a little afraid of them too.

    My mom is taking a charter bus her friend got to the March, and has knit about a gazillion “pussyhats” for all her friends, but I will not be wearing a hat, will be taking the metro

    Maybe I’ll see ya, maybe I’ll be overwhelmed by the crowds and dip into a cafe for a quick panic attack instead

  24. A bunch of Pittsburgh students (including myself) are going to be marching in DC on both the 20th and 21st! I’m painting signs this weekend (on sheets… since those can be packed easily).

    If anyone is looking for a group to march with and get can get there a bit earlier, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) DC is organizing an anti-racist contingent at the march. They’re meeting at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 9am that day.

  32. I’ll be marching here in Washington, DC on Jan 21st (and then teaching a special yoga class that afternoon for Stonewall Yoga — for LGBT community and its allies).
