Hello, fellow non-heterosexuals! Hope everything’s going just swell for you and yours this week. Did you see that moon earlier this week? How about that, huh? She really is my favorite lesbian of all time. Let’s take some time to look at some other good gay content from this week!
+ At the Asheville Women’s March, Tamika Mallory reminded us to fight systems, not people.
+ Navajo grandparents are lifelines for LGBTQ young people.
“We are seeing clearly the aftereffects of what colonialism can look like and how it really shifted our values as Navajo people,” Nelson says. “Whereas at the time, if you were LGBTQ and growing up in Navajo traditional families, families celebrated that fact. They said that we were sacred. They said that we had sacred roles.” But returning to understandings that predate colonialism has helped the families of LGBT Navajos. Traditionalists believe that the “two spirited,” as they’re sometimes called, are powerful and that not all humans can be classified as male or female.
+ EBONY Magazine is a GLAAD Media Award nominee.
+ Video games have become a safer space to explore queer identities for some folks.
+ The first school in Latin America specifically for trans youth is thriving with 22 students
The school was launched in 2017 as a way to help families of trans children, who often skip classes or even fail to finish their studies as result of discrimination, said Selenna Foundation President Evelyn Silva. Classes began in April 2018 in a space loaned by a community center in the Chilean capital of Santiago. Courses include math, science, history and English, as well as workshops on art and photography.
+ Brandi Carlile is the most-nominated woman at the Grammys this year and here’s how. (While the article does not explicitly say it’s because she’s a lesbian and we are full of power and magic, you and I know that’s a large part of the reason)
+ Check out the Jane Club, a co-working space that’s a maternal oasis.
+ Some queer women talk the Oscars, Kamala Harris, and comedy. You (I) will (did) spill hot green tea on yourself (myself) giggling, so beware.
+ RENT Live, possibly the gayest thing to ever appear on Fox during prime time, is tonight!! Idina Menzel (the original Maureen) revealed that the OG cast will be getting together to celebrate. This is making my 13-year-old dreams come true! The Autostraddle Team is live-blogging tonight’s production (!!!), so maybe come back here @ 8 pm EST and bring a bowl of popcorn? We promise a good time.
Have a super beautiful Sunday, pals. Be sure to check out the sunset or a cute babe (with consent). Take some time to sit quietly with your pets/babies/friends/lovers and just relish that you get to live life right now! And maybe it’s not perfect, but you’re alive and someone loves you and that’s great. Think on that today if you need a boost, buddy. I love you so much! See you next week.
Brandi Carlile is magic.
“over the moon”
I see you.
❤️ your positive attitude Al(aina)! Thank you for always making me smile. 🤗
I am so excited for the Autostraddle RENT live blog!!! I was hoping you all would do this :D
Thank you so much Al(aina) for this news roundup and positivity, you’re amazing! xoxox
I wanted to drop a note that there is another school in Latin America for trans youth: the Mocha Celis high school in Buenos Aires, Argentina, opened in 2012 and serves people over 16. Another really amazing space <3

Yes, the moon is a lesbian! People often forget this.
Didn’t know about the Rent thing! Anyone know where I can watch it online?
Wait, Rent is tonight?Good thing I can always rely on people on the internet to have my back and tell me what’s on TV. I’ve never seen Rent and this is my chance!
Televising musicals for the general public is a great thing and I have felt this way since Brandy was Cinderella.
Yay Rent
