“Think of Ellen Page, circa Juno, dating Elizabeth Mitchell during her Gia period and you’ve got Catherine (McAtee) and Jackie (Stouffer) in Bloomington.” – Frontiers
Enough said, right?
But I probably should say more. Y/N?
‘Bloomington‘ is a newly-released film with potential to be the newest lesbian movie drama hit, like Better Than Chocolate but … better.
Additionally, those of us in or around the Los Angeles area can go see the film premiere at the PYT party this Wednesday, May 11th! If you go to PYT’s awesome lesbian party every Wednesday like I do (jk … or am I?), then you’re in luck!
Here’s a little more about it:
In the tradition of LOVING ANNABELLE.
BLOOMINGTON is a coming-of-age drama about Jackie Kirk, the former child star of a sci-fi hit show. Hoping to find independence from her somewhat overbearing mother, Jackie leaves California for the Midwest to attend college. Surprisingly, she doesn’t fit in with her peers, who are constantly aware of her celebrity status. At a department mixer, Jackie is instantly attracted to Catherine, a young professor with a reputation. Both being outsiders, they develop an intense bond as they pursue a secret affair.
Not a big deal, but I feel like no one in their right mind would want to miss this. Just sayin.
And what a spiffy name for a film. It has a nice ring to it.
I saw this movie but I won’t spoil anyone. The two leading ladies are sexy hot.
It is SO GOOD. And Allison McAtee is smoldering.
I want to see this sooooo bad. My massive teacher fetish DEMANDS it.
Is it a safe assumption the title is Bloomington because she goes to college at IU in Bloomington, Indiana? Super gay friendly campus supposedly. And the Kinsey Institute!
This is actually the first I’m hearing of this film. I’m so uninformed :/
I never heard of it either. Want to see NOW.
Bloomington is pretty gay-friendly considering its location in Southern Indiana, but its probably the least gay-friendly of all the gay-friendly cities you can think of…
I live in Bloomington and I really wanted to see this film when they screened it at the Pride Film Fest this last winter. Sadly I missed it, but I’ll be renting it this week. I’m so glad to see it here though. I didn’t realize it’s as big as it is.
You can rent it on amazon for 3 dollars lol

Nice one!
can’t make the premier but I will be seeing this movie!
but they’re both blonde. Blonde + blonde = no. It’s like, the rules of feminism. Just look at Quinn and Sam on Glee. The imagery is weird.
I just want to say, don’t get your hopes up. I felt like the mother-daughter dynamic of the two lovers was a little too way weird for my taste (nothing like Loving Annabelle), and the worst part is: it’s NOT EVEN filmed in Bloomington, IN. I spent two years there–came out there in fact, after reading Audre Lorde and Adrienne Rich. What a fine time. So I was to say the least disappointed about that. Script and acting also too thin! So just go in with low expectations, and then maybe you will anyway be pleasantly surprised or something.
Allison McAtee. Nuff said.
Yeah, I was extremely weirded out by the dynamics of this film. I had other reasons, too, but I’ve forgotten them since I watched in the wee hours of the morning.
