+ Alicia Witt will recur in Season Seven of Orange is the New Black, playing “Zelda, a professional fundraiser for various high-end non-profit organizations. A strong, chic and low-key New York sophisticate who went to Dartmouth, she strives to be in control of every situation.”
+ David Nutter is stepping down as director of The CW’s “Batwoman” pilot, with Marcos Siega replacing him. Both of these people are men.
+ Halsey tweeted that she Wants to Star in a Gay Twilight Reboot: I mean, I want a private chef but we can’t all get what we want Halsey!
+ Several shows with lesbian characters have been cancelled or announced their final season over the past week: Jessica Jones at Netflix, The Man in The High Castle at Amazon, Counterpart at Starz and Nightflyers at Syfy.
+ Starz is rounding out the cast for P-Valley, an hour-long drama set in a strip club in the Mississippi Valley. It’s based on the play Pussy Valley, in which Nicco Annan played Uncle Clifford, “a trans man who is part of the life of the club,” according to Playbill. However, this piece about the play describes the role as a “transgendered woman” and this piece says they’re a “pre-op trans man.” A casting call from July 2018 describes the role like this:
[UNCLE CLIFFORD] Late 30s is our ideal (but please do not limit based on age), African American, “The HBIC.” Sharp-tongued, wise, and always serving us with a side of extra-extra, the owner of the finest shake junt in the Dirty Delta is a gender fluid hustler with a heart of gold-plating. Masculine and feminine in equal measure, She/they doesn’t just make the rules—she/they enforces them with a set of perfectly manicured talons. Armed with little but their razor sharp wit and a face beat for the gawds, they’ll stop at nothing to protect their club and their girls from impending doom. A realist who takes their romance like a pinch of salt in cornbread, Uncle Clifford is rarely taken for a ride. But a longing for love exposes a vulnerability that proves to be a strength as they learns for the first time in their life to risk it all.
The Deadline piece from today suggests that the actor from the play will be reprising his role. I guess we’ll find out!

+ How Dating Around Convinced ‘Ordinary’ People to Try Reality TV:
Casting was really hard because we were looking for people who wouldn’t normally do this, and that doesn’t just mean people that might not trust an outfit like Netflix. It was also people who weren’t looking for attention. Or people who don’t see faces like their own on TV. That was the thing that surprised me the most, the number of people who were like, “I never thought I’d be approached to be on a dating show. I’m a gay guy.” Or, “I’m a lesbian.” The lesbians were even more stressed than the gay guys were. And certainly the older people were like, “When I tell my friends about this, they think it’s the craziest thing that has ever happened.”
+ Noted not-heterosexuals Lena Waithe, Rachel Maddow and Miley Cyrus will appear on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 11.

Dating Around was a TRIP. Straight people are not ok! I really liked the show, but by and large, the only dates that weren’t agonizing were the queer people!
I feel you on that one. The dude from the first episode was the worse. The one where the woman was looking for love was a little better to be honest, but I kept hoping that she go yeah I made a mistake I like women or that she is bi and woman is part of her date.
“Both of these people are men.” Exactly. Smh
Can I just say one about thing about Ellen Page? I just finished The Umbrella Academy and she really did THAT. Whew, those final three episodes were something else. Go watch it if you haven’t already.
Let me just mourn a bit for Jessica Jones :( dammit!
