+ This week has lasted about ten thousand years, fires on top of garbage on top of other fires on top of other garbage, but you have to trust me that you will stop thinking about that for at least the three minutes it takes you to watch this trailer for Mean Girls reimagined as a lesbian rom com. (I had to pause it to roll around on the floor when it said “Before Carol…”) (Also this is the one and only good thing I’ve seen so far re: the internet’s latest obsession with “pivoting to video.”)
+ Samira Wiley joined John Oliver on Last Week Tonight for a CSI spoof called Crime Scene Idiot. (She arrives around the 15-minute mark.)
+ A headline from UK GQ: Cara Delevingne on why men and women should speak more openly about vaginas. The URL is great too “lady-garden-campaign.”
+ Aleksandar Hemon in The New Yorker about the transformative experience about writing for Sense8.
+ Heeeey a new technicolor St. Vincent music video. It’s for her song “Los Angeles” and it is about facelifts.
+ Mary Lambert is everywhere all over again, just as it should be. At Junkee:
I always think that it’s very interesting: laughing so hard you’re going to cry and crying so hard you’re going to laugh. I don’t think that that’s a coincidence that they’re related, I think that they access a similar part in the human brain and I think that that’s a place where I live. So my performances are a lot like that.
+ Fox is making Lawrence Otis Graham’s Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class into a TV series.
+ Rachel Maddow wrote about Nicole Wallace in Variety for that 50 Powerful New Yorkers thing they’re doing. If you don’t watch MSNBC you know Nicole Wallace as Sarah Paulson’s character in HBO’s Game Change.
+ Hem hem. Michelle Obama Talks White House ‘Standard of Ethics’ in Conversation With Shonda Rhimes
+ Atlanta‘s Stefani Robinson signed an overall deal with FX! Did you know she’s writing the film adaptation of Princeless? I can’t wait.
+ Here are some details about that new Riverdale spinoff of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. They do not sound like good details to me. They are way too boyfriend heavy.
+ Viola Davis and Larry Wilmore are tag-teaming for a show called Black Don’t Crack.
+ Take a peek at the first stills from Marvel’s The Runaways, which is coming to Hulu in late November.
+ Alaiana mentioned this in the Sunday Funday but I just wanted to reiterate that Kristen Stewart is in talks to star in a Charlie’s Angels reboot alongside Lupita Nyong’o.
HOLY SHIT LESBIAN MEAN GIRLS, I DIED.
I really like Larry Wilmore, listen to his podcast regularly as was sad his show was canceled. Plus, he’s had a hand in Insecure, Black-ish, and the spin-off with Yara too!
When I saw “hem hem” my mind immediately went to Madam Undersecretary Professor Dolores Jane Umbridge
I hate her
what an unbelievably horrifying character. she still haunts my nightmares
she’s one of the most evil character of the series. Actually one could make a case that she’s the most evil character.
There are so many conservative female politicians in my country’s government at the moment who are dead ringers for her. They give me the horrors every time one of them shows up on the news.
Also, Nicole came out on Fresh off the Boat last night! FotB is an interesing show because creator Nahnatchka Khan is obviously gay, and there were occasionally moments when AS covered some storyline or another (mom Jessica’s favorite bar is a lesbian bar, plus she and her best friend Honey have a very intimate friendship), but no major gay characters. It’s cool to see Khan introducing a gay character, especially a teenage girl who’s always seemed very poised and confident compared to the sometimes more awkward Eddie. The show is set in the 90s, and this is a nice reminder that there’s value to having 90s-based stories written today that you can’t find on programs that were actually WRITTEN in the 90s, lol. (Can you tell I’m bored with the 90s nostalgia craze?)
I love that show
OMG OMG thank you for alerting me that Fresh Off the Boat is back!! I just watched the episode and I am so excited by this development! I hope Nicole’s storyline gets more attention this season because this is so awesome.
OMG I’M SO EXCITED
“Fresh off the Boat” is my favorite sitcom currently on television and this is incredible news
I was so excited! When she made that comment about Jodie Foster in Contact earlier in the episode, I started wondering.
OMG WHAT thank you for mentioning this!! I love that show and haven’t watched the new ones yet! And I love Nicole!
That IS exactly what I needed today, thank you
Okay A) everything I wanted Mean Girls, and Bring it On, and Miss Congeniality to be.
B) Someone asked me the date today, which I remembered because *yesterday* was October 3rd and I saw more. Than. One. Screenshot. Reminder.
Oh my god someone do this for all of these.
I wish with all of my queer little heart that Torrance had fallen for Missy instead of her dopey brother.
In my imagination- she did.
Oh, Lizzie Caplan. I have a big lesbian crush on YOU.
I’m pretty sure Mean Girls was at least 75% lesbian romcom already.
will someone PLEASE make the lesbian rom-com Mean Girls? I need 90 minutes of that, its so right.
Seriously, someone PLEASE make this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3
