Pop Culture Fix: Like You, FIFA Has Officially Crowned Megan Rapinoe “The Best”

It’s your first post-impeachment announcement Pop Culture Fix, welcome!

+ FIFA has officially crowned Megan Rapinoe The Best, and, like always, when she took the stage to accept her trophy, she used her time to call out racism and homophobia.

“If we really want to have meaningful change, what I think is most inspiring would be if everybody other than Sterling and Koulibaly, if they were as outraged about racism as they were, if everybody was as outraged about homophobia as the LGBTQ players, if everybody was as outraged about the lack of equal pay and investment in the women’s game other than just women, that would be the most inspiring thing to me… That’s my ask of everybody. We have such incredible opportunity, being professional football players … we have so much success … we have incredible platforms. I ask everybody here to lend your platform, to lift people up, to use this beautiful game to change the world for better.”

    • I actually hope that Evelyn Hugo project fails, because I don’t think Freeform has the budget to recreate old Hollywood or that they’ll be able to find someone magnetic enough to play Hugo — she was inspired by people like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth, big, glamorous talents. The book was absolutely wonderful and I’d love to see it as a movie or a prestige limited series, but a cable TV show from the people who gave us The L Word? I can’t think of a worse match.

  1. Susan and Carol were one of the first lesbian couples and the very first gay wedding that I saw on TV so they’ll always have a special place in my heart

  2. I still haven’t read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but I’ll get around to it eventually but a series about it sounds interesting.

And I don’t like Frozen (sorry to anyone here that loves it) and I only want to see the sequel because of Evan Rachel Wood.
