FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK FOREVER AND EVER AD INFINITUM. There’s a cover version I think by KT Tunstall that cuts out the bits o’problematic language in the third verse too if people prefer.
‘Christmas In Prison’ by John Prine is a favorite, as is the Otis Redding ‘White Christmas’ from Love Actually because I’m a sentimental knob around the holidays. ‘Christmas In Hollis’ too, of course. And Vince Guaraldi.
Anywho, great stuff, all. Laura, you’re the best for including Van Morrison.
Check out “A Musical Christmas with John Barrowman” any Whovians out there already know one reason he’s awesome, now you can love him for another one!!! He’s an amazing singer and it’s just freakin’ awesome!!!
You can download the entire album here: http://www.general-files.com/files-j/john-barrowman-musical-christmas-zip/ !!!
What Christmas Means to Me – Stevie Wonder has always been a fav of mine!
The lack of any of Sarah McLachlan’s Christmas album makes me sad. For I love it.
this^. ‘song for a winter’s night’ and ‘wintersong’ are some of my favourites. BNL are also missing from this list :(
all it needs is Christmas Wrapping – by the Waitresses, but i like the Spice Girls version of it!
another great playlist!!!! ty gals!!!
spice girls does a cover of christmas wrapping?!! my life now has meaning.
“All That I Want” by The Weepies. Not super duper Christmasy, more just a beautiful song.

The My Chemical Romance cover of All I Want For Christmas Is You.
…Just sayin’.
(On a different note, I recently got really into the song Sister Winter on Sufjan Steven’s Songs for Christmas, which is less a Christmas song and more just awesome)
(Well, not a Christmas song until it starts talking about Christmas. But. Idk somehow it’s just not in my head.)
Fall out boy – Yule shoot your eye out

All of the Hotel Cafe Presents Winter Songs.
Especially The Heartache Can Wait by Brandi Carlile. And Winter Song but that’s already on the playlist.
Sufjan Stevens’ Christmas album <3
Oh wow that I didn’t know of. Was it released in 2011???
Rachel WOULD pick Elvis’ Blue Christmas.
And that’s why she’s my favourite. Because that is the only Christmas song that I like. It must be a Rachel Thing.
it’s also the live version which is the best version of the best christmas song. just saying. i’m really glad we both know what’s up re: christmas/elvis/elvismas!
He’s the only one who should ever sing that song, to be honest. It’s good to know I’m not the only one with those feelings. My girlfriend would rather listen to Justin Bieber sing it or whatever.
the bright eyes version and the she&him version both make me want to move to a cabin on top of a mountain where the only sounds i will ever have to hear are the birds chirping and the sound of my own blood slowly freezing in my veins
You are the best person.
And also White Winter Hymnal by the Fleet Foxes.
I KNOW ALL OF THESE SONGS. I WILL BE SINGING THEM MOST DAYS UNTIL NEW YEARS. THANK YOU.
(Seriously, I know too many Christmas songs. I usually start singing them on Dec. 1st and have enough to last me through the 31st. Oh, and then there’s the fact that I have the entire Nutcracker plus choreography memorized.)
Ok, I know it’s Glee…but how about Naya Rivera’s sultry rendition of Santa Baby?
Someone on tumblr did a “remix” of this, slowing it down to the tempo of the original Eartha Kitt version. I can’t find the post right now of course, but it is soooo much sexier than the released version, if you can imagine that.
Hurts – All I want for christmas is new years day
I’m so glad to find “Feliz Navidad” there…That’s a classic.
In Venezuela we heard something call gaitas…Is good

A very she & him christmas is not on here :(
My friend is throwing a Christmas party this week and I am in charge of sound. (aka I’m bringing over my speakers and laptop.)
We’re making it a trashy-on-purpose holiday fest, and I need some songs to that effect to mix in with all these Ke-dollarsign-ha remixes and trashy house anthems. So far all I have is Gaga’s “Christmas Tree.” Help me, Autostraddle!
There are a lot of really terrible renditions of “O Holy Night” out there.
Father Christmas by The Kinks. nothing says holiday cheer like mugging Santa!
Also, I recommend checking out the John Waters Christmas Album:

There’s Cyndi Lauper & The Hives: A Christmas Duet.
sara bareilles walked passed us as santacon in sf last week. she ignored my friend who drunkenly attempted to serenade her with her own love song. respect.
“The Christians and the Pagans” is a holiday staple of mine. How has that not been mentioned/included?
My dad interviewed Jose Feliciano when he was a journalist. It was in Tasmania on the stage of the playhouse many years ago. He said he was lovely. He told me the whole story the other day. That’s what I love about journalism. My dad interviewed people ranging from Jose Feliciano and Timothy Dalton (aka James Bond) to Yasser Arafat and Shimon Peres.
There was some good stuff coming out this year:
– Erin Mckeown made a Christmas CD called “F*ck That”
– John Zorn has another good CD called “A Dreamer’s Christmas”
– The Kills has a christmas song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KufUZfbSnE
…And I’m pretty sure a couple of other musicians also released new versions of Christmas songs but I can’t remember any of them because I either I didn’t like those covers or I didn’t really like the musicians :/
But I mean, lots of good stuff on that list. Especially Erin Mckeown. Actually, I would select this one from the album, since it’s called “It’s a very queer Christmas” :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIgqQkGlU9M
The Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” which is actually a mashup of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “We Three Kings,” and makes me dance.
i LOVE that song. almost as much as the carpenters’ merry christmas darling
Christmas isn’t Christmas without the entire “A Charlie Brown Christmas” musical playlist. If you haven’t heard it, go download it now. It’s beautiful, it’s melancholy, it’s joyous, it’s Christmas time.
Three cheers for Lyndsey, and RIP Kirsty MacColl
Santa Baby can only be song by Maryln Monroe, no one else is soooo sultry
