20GayTeen continues to bless us in its fullness! The Alvarez family is coming back! Netflix just announced that it has renewed One Day at a Time for a third season, just two months after the show’s second season dropped and broke our hearts and stitched them back together and made us swoon swoon swoon. (And then, of course, we read Carmen’s review and interview with her mom and cried all over again!)

While dozens of mainstream critics have written glowing reviews — ODAAT has a stunning 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating after two season — and called repeatedly for the show’s renewal on social media, showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett was quick to thank fans after the announcement. And so were the stars of the show.

(Rita Moreno hasn’t tweeted about it yet, but I wasn’t about to exclude her.)

This is my favorite TV news in a year that has been absolutely ripe with brilliant and exciting queer TV news. In fact, when my girlfriend texted me this announcement we were in the middle of a senior editors’ meeting and we all cheered and disbanded so I could write this post. Hurray for authentic diverse storytelling by people who share identities and experiences with the characters they’re writing about! More of this! (And more Rita Moreno forever.)
