+ “Futa didn’t make me a dyke-y trans girl. It just helped me realize that’s who I wanted to be,” writes Sam Riedel at the Establishment on Japanese porn and trans identity:

“Futanari is a Japanese word literally meaning “dual form” or “to be of two kinds,” and is used to describe various states of hermaphroditism and androgyny, depending on the context. When discussing pornography — as we’ll be doing for the next 600 words or so — futanari, commonly shortened to “futa,” is a genre of Japanese cartoon porn that stars women with penises. Some have testicles, some don’t; some have vaginas, some don’t. […] The extent of my thought process at that time was my sudden knowledge that being a dickgirl was probably the best thing I could ever be.

And then I carefully avoided thinking about the consequences of that idea for five years.”

+ There’s a lot of porn on tumblr.

+ Sex is good for your brain, confirms more science.

+ Sex toy reviewer Epiphora named her best and worst sex toys of 2016.

+ UVee is a new sex toy storage box that charges and sanitizes (a small selection of) your sex toys at once.

+ Get tested for STIs. At Oh Joy Sex Toy, Erika Moen writes: “Getting regularly tested is just a part of being a considerate, responsible sexual partner […] We all get exposed to saliva, blood, and various human juices throughout our lives, even without having sex, so you can never REALLY be sure of your status without a test!”

+ Sometimes parents can be the reason teens don’t learn about sex, especially when parents worry that even acknowledging sex will lead to it. At Broadly, Steph Auteri writes:

“According to the Guttmacher Institute, only 24 states and the District of Columbia mandate sex education, and only 13 states require it to be ‘medically accurate.’ In some states, there’s a financial incentive to provide incomplete sexual education to students—the federal government bequeaths millions of dollars in funding to abstinence-only education programs per year. And in other cases, there is a lack of understanding about the intentions and benefits of comprehensive sexuality education.

With opponents of comprehensive sex ed believing that certain pieces of information are inappropriate, or that children should be learning about sex from their parents instead of in their schools—or even that learning about sex encourages more kids to have it, in turn leading to a greater number of teen pregnancies and STIs—it can be difficult to build a case for its need.”

+ What happens when your UTI just keeps coming back? At Tonic, R. Cassandra writes that, though her experience is not universal and the substance is not well-studied, D-mannose was the thing that finally helped:

“After reading endless online reviews for D-mannose, I decided to try it. I haven’t had a single infection since. It’s the only thing I’ve found that doesn’t just prevent infections, but can also reverse an infection in the early stages. I take it after sex and the next morning. If I feel an infection coming on, I’ll sometimes take it four times a day. Together, with preventative measures like drinking lots of water and practicing good hygiene, I’ve developed a routine that has allowed me to avoid infections altogether.”

  1. Teen Vogue is so sex positive and educational?? Bought a subscription for my sister in high school and increasingly convinced I need to subscribe myself.

    • I have a pin-on button that reads, “Be who you needed when you were younger.” Now I want one that reads, “Be the Teen Vogue columnist you needed when you were younger.”

    • Got the first issue in my first Teen Vogue subscription ever on Friday and 10/10, would recommend

  2. I wonder if kids and parents both got report cards you might find parents more willing to do a good job. Imagine if a kids grades were based on how well their parents, parented and took an interest in school. You might find more kids willing to push their parents to do the right thing.

  3. The Masters of Sex Cure Month Experience link is broken. :/ I found it, but I thought I’d point that out. Totes going to give this a go!! :D
