Welcome to NSFW Sunday!
Betty Dodson, the pioneering sex educator who brought the Magic Wand to the masses, died last weekend at 91. At New York Magazine, Madeline Aggeler writes:
“Gruff, blunt, and wickedly funny, Dodson’s teachings have been hugely influential in how women’s sexual health and pleasure are discussed today. Her book Sex for One has been translated into over 25 languages; her self-pleasure workshops are taught by ‘bodysex leaders,’ as they are known, around the world; and she even worked as an adviser for New York’s popular Museum of Sex. ‘Betty had it all,’ Annie Sprinkle, the 1970s porn star turned sex educator, who was a student of Dodson’s, told the Times. ‘She popularized the clitoris and clitoral orgasms, and gave the clitoris celebrity status.'”
Is it ghosting if you don’t text someone after one date? I liked this take:
“Basically, to be a ghost, you need to have been a person in someone’s life, and no one is really a person after one date. You’re still basically an idea that someone’s projecting onto. But, say, you went on a first date with a friend, or someone you knew beforehand. If you didn’t follow up, then that would be ghosting.”
Here’s what’s up with America’s homophobic anti-sodomy laws, many of which still exist:
“Prior to 1962, every U.S. state had a sodomy law that criminalized a suite of sex acts deemed to be “immoral.” Also referred to as crimes against nature (CAN) laws, they typically outlawed things like bestiality, incest and even BDSM, but their main purpose was to criminalize sex between people of the same gender. As such, oral and anal sex were largely illegal, even with consent, and while this occasionally affected heterosexuals caught in the act, it was gays, lesbians and anyone else who dared to have non-procreative sex who were the primary targets for arrest.”

“In r/ToyControl, anonymity is a buffer for shy BDSM lovers looking to play,” writes Eleanor Hancock on letting kinky Reddit users control your sex toys.
“A Biden win is not a victory for sex workers,” writes Tracy Flory-Clark at Jezebel.
Here’s how to set boundaries without hurting people (spoiler alert boundaries shouldn’t hurt people):
“I remember being terrified of hurting other people myself when I was new to boundary-setting.
Then I learned something very important: We only really get to know people when we don’t give them what they want. People tend to all look alike so long as you’re giving them what they want. Setting boundaries reveals people’s true natures. Typically, people who are mature and care about you can deal with being told no or you setting some kind of boundary with them.”
