For her 30th birthday, Tanya Gilstrap decided to fuck 30 people in 30 days. Being queer and poly helped; so did an intense Google spreadsheet:

“[D]oing this has helped me reclaim my sexuality and understand that it’s okay to ask for what I want. It’s made me realize my needs are valid, and that I deserve to be cared for and supported as I search for ways to have them met. And while our culture tries its hardest to make that process difficult for some of us, I believe everyone has a right to go after what brings them pleasure — no matter what your gender or sexual orientation is, what your body looks like or what part of the country you live in.

Doing this also made me feel infinitely more confident about myself. Like anyone, there are things about my body I’d like to change, but I was absolutely taken aback by how many of those same things turned people on. The lesson there is this: There’s something, and someone, for everyone.”

“[E]cosexuality is seductive: it incentivises people to change their relationship with nature by exploring their sexuality,” writes Megan Wallace at Paper on ecosexuality and saving the planet:

“[E]cosexual practices tend to involve a combination of art, activism and, as you might have gathered, sex. In practical terms, this might sometimes translate to nudity outdoors, but it’s more specifically about consciously taking pleasure in the beauty of plants, waterfalls, and Mother Nature’s other treasures.

The movement has certainly grown legs in the sex industry, with ‘ecosexual’ emerging as a porn category, and a boom in vegan sex toys, lube, and condoms. Yet, in our wider sex-negative culture, ecosexuality has not had such a positive reception. A quick google of this topic yields US conservatives ridiculing terms like ‘grassilingus,’ and a lot of right-wing sceptics puzzling over the logistics of shagging trees. Cutting through this online scepticism, however, could ecosexuality work as a way to mobilise people in the fight against climate change?”

Presenting as non-binary can change your dating life, writes Travis Alabanza:

“It feels like some people’s relationship to gender non-conforming femininity is one of both desire and distance. We are wanted in the clubs, on high podiums, in high heels, in all our fabulousness to entertain, perform, be fierce, death drop, be a sister. I find, though, that we are rarely considered romantic or sexual prospects—in our normality, in our boredom, in our softness, in our mundanity, in daylight, hand in hand.

When you declare you are outside of the binary, it can leave you feeling like you are also outside of sexual plausibility.”

  1. Reading this column first thing on a Sunday morning is AMAZING ! It’s my favourite new ritual.

  2. Also, Wild Wolf Leather Works : so much beauty ! It makes harnesses feel accessible to me.

(I feel like there’s a weird pun in that sentence but I can’t pin it down)

  3. omg i knew Ali (wild wolf leatherworks) when i was in highschool and got a harness from them a while ago, it’s so cool to see their beautiful work cropping up all over the place :)

  4. Not dating but since dressing how I want to (AFAB, non binary, masc of centre dressing in generally preppy boy clothes) I’ve found the quality of conversation with the general public’s gone up. Bigots and conservatives don’t want to talk to me which leaves me in conversations with lefties, arty types, other lgbt people etc instead.

I know that’s not everyone’s experience (people get harassment, I’ve only done this for one time and I’ve already heard one homophobic slur) and it’s site specific, probably privileged perspective but I just want people know there’s hope out there. Quality not quantity.
