After an excruciatingly drawn-out social media build-up, Tegan and Sara released the cover art for their eighth studio album and announced its release date: Love You to Death will drop on June 3, preceded by new music on April 8.

Their last album, Heartthrob, dropped over three years ago. We had a lot of feelings about it. Or rather, Crystal had a lot of feelings about Tegan and Sara on Autostraddle, and I had a lot of feelings about them alone in my room.
Tegan and Sara have had a big few years. They went on tour, recorded an infectious song hated by adults and children alike (which they then sang at the Oscars), were the voices of an Oreo jingle and Sara wrote the score for a film. They also got an Instagram account. And cats.
Based on Tegan and Sara’s social media presence over the past year, I can only conclude that this long-anticipated album will be a collection of songs from their previous records, rewritten to be about how they love Sara’s cats – Holiday and Mickey — to death.

congratulations maddie on finding the only way to get me excited about a tegan and sara album.
i feel like i’ve accomplished a dream i didn’t even know i had.

Goth rock beats with a lyrical emphasis on blood, death, romance and sex.
Maybe vampires and witches.

You and 2 other people are the only ones who possibly maybe got my reference to a song from 1996. Why would Tegan and Sara reference anything from that group or album?
Although there is that lovely little track about menstrual cunnlingus that one can hope a queer lady loving artist(s) would cover. >D
I do not drink wine red or white, it is a lyrical reference to a song.

I have been avoiding setting foot in my own apartment for months because I can not deal with the mountain of fur my roomie’s 2 cats produce.
But now she is moving out and I got super depressed saying goodbye to the cats today.
I feel better knowing I can just cyber-stalk Tegan and Sarah’s cats and when I stand up my trousers won’t be covered in cat fur.

I am super excited (not so excited about the inevitable crying/driving sessions..but I think by the time this drops I’ll be in a better emotional place than I was for the last one)!
Heartthrob came out right when I was in my “I’m definitely queer, lets get into everything queer entertainment” stage so it’s always gonna be important to me. Now I’m All Messed Up = instant emotional wreck remembering the girl I spent a semester sighing over. I’m excited for this one for all the same reasons as you!

I initially hated Heartthrob with a passion because it was so different from their older albums, but it is admittedly now like my favourite workout music, so I’m not sure what to hope for.
honestly i would be SO satisfied with more happy-to-be-a-human/pump-up/work-out music. i feel like their back-catalog is full of enough angst for a lifetime.
Yeah I feel like personally I’ve moved past that angsty stage and I guess so have Tegan and Sara?
I’d be down with some more workout tunes (although my early twenties self would be horrified to hear that)!

LY2D dropped on my half-birthday, so that was pretty exciting.
