When the subtitle to the article on the front page was just “JK” I couldn’t tell if you meant “JK I don’t love this heterosexual show” or “JK this show is so not heterosexual”.

I’m so glad it was the latter.

These pictures just made GLOW jump to the top of my to-watch list.

I really, really love this show. It’s not at all perfect, but it’s still just so damn fun and refreshing. Also, almost an entirely lady cast, and a whole lotta women behind the camera, too (including directors, writers, etc.). It gives me a lot of the feels that I get from doing roller derby, in terms of community and learning to love your body and embrace what it can do / owning your own space.

    Also, this: https://www.glamour.com/story/glow-star-betty-gilpin-what-its-like-to-have-pea-sized-confidence-with-watermelon-sized-boobs

And yes so much queer vibing. Here’s hoping for more explicit stuff next season!

The similarities to derby made me like it too. I’m a sucker for anything with women building a community and learning how to kick ass.

Although i will say derby is waaaaaaaay more explicitly queer. And that’s about the only thing I DIDNT like about it.

You are now the second person to tell me that GLOW reminds them of roller derby. The first being Georgia W Tush who literally called it the Whip It of wrestling and said it gave her the same “OMG I WANT TO DO THAT” feeling that watching Whip It for the first time did for so many of us.

So now I REALLY want to watch it, but I’m also worried it’s going to get me addicted to a second sport that I really do not have time for…

I know that seeing people be contrarian all the time is exhausting but like, I really did not like this show. I wanted to! But so much of it didn’t sit right with me. Why did they have to focus so much on the director and his slimy misogynist B-movies? Why couldn’t they have gone more into the women’s backgrounds instead?

I was so, so bored by the cheating husband thread and so frustrated that it pulled through the whole series.

There were a bunch of ways in which the series felt really close to breaking through beyond the male gaze and the male framing of everything, but then I wasn’t sure it ever really succeeded.

That being said, I mean, did I watch it in a single literal marathon where I actually put down my phone and rarely got up for snacks? Of course I did.

I didn’t enjoy the cheating husband either (honestly, all his scenes could’ve been cut without affecting the show and several episodes would’ve been stronger for it), but I did feel like the cheating story line served the show well, to keep Ruth in an uncomfortable underdog position that didn’t rely on her being physically weak, bullied by her co-stars, or simply “she’s just an insecure person slowly coming out of her shell over the course of this series”.

Thank you for compiling these, you’re doing God’s work. I binged this and finished it three days after it premiered, been waiting to find people to geek out about it with.

Spoiler-ish: The Heterosexual Love Triangle/Cheating Bullshit was draining, and (even though I am in love with Alison Brie) I wasn’t 100 percent sold on Ruth + Debbie as leads until about halfway through the series. That being said, the ensemble cast is amazing and I have a crush on every single one of them.

Hopefully Jenji Cohan doesn’t pull a Weeds/OITNB and fuck this one up, because I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved it! I have to say that despite the misogynist stuff (cause there are a few), I thought the show very female driven and kind of empowering, actually cause ultimatelly they were all able to do what everyone thought they wouldn’t, even though it was for male gazing.

I hope it gets renewed for a second season and that they don’t screw everything up, off course!
