“Generation Q” and “Work in Progress“ Renewed For Season 2, Thank You So Much

Well, kids. Here we are! Just hours after the surprise return of an original cast member heard ‘round the world, Showtime has renewed The L Word: Generation Q for a second season. Also renewed for Season Two? The already stellar Work in Progress! Truly giving the gays everything that they want.

Both series will deliver 10-episode sophomore seasons.

Here’s what Showtime’s co-president of entertainment, Gary Levine, had to say about Gen Q’s renewal, “The L Word: Generation Q  took our original series that was revered and reinvigorated it for a new generation and a new era… The result has been a show that appeals to all generations for its relevance, its fearlessness, its emotion and its fun. I can’t wait to see what Marja, along with Ilene and this talented ensemble, will deliver for Season 2.”

Jana Winograde Showtime’s other co-president of entertainment was equally effusive of Work in Progress: “We could not be more gratified that both critics and viewers are responding to the spark of creativity and original point of view that blew us away when we first saw the pilot that screened at Sundance last year… We fell in love with Abby at first sight, and are eager to share in the laughter — and tears — that she, Tim and Lilly will undoubtedly evoke in Season 2.”

Our editor-in-chief Riese recently tweeted about how disappointing it is that The L Word: Generation Q‘s first season is wrapping up just as the show really found its footing. Sophie, Dani, Finley, Tess, Gigi and Micah have already become a part of our queer family — we roll our eyes at their mistakes and root for their dreams. Who didn’t cheer as hard as Uncle Shane over Angie’s crush getting fulfilled? At least now we can rest knowing that when we say goodbye, it won’t be forever.

Here’s to much more iconic dyke drama as only The L Word can provide for many years to come!

  1. Yaaay I was really hoping we’d have a Gen Q season 2! I want the show to have time to develop the existing characters more, and also add in some of the important perspectives that season 1 is missing.
