It’s been five years since Dannielle Owens-Reid and Kristin Russo launched Everyone is Gay. What started as an advice Tumblr for queer youth has grown to include *deep breath* lip sync videos, vlogs, in-person events, a book and spinoff ventures like The Parents Project and the Autostraddle collaboration ‘zine series Better Together. Phew, that’s a lot. To celebrate the occasion, the pair asked some of their more musically inclined friends — including Julia Nunes, Jenny Owen Youngs, Allison Weiss, Jukebox the Ghost and Vivek Shraya — to contribute to The Gayest Compilation Ever Made, vol. III.

The result is like hanging out at a party where all your friends pass around a guitar and take turns playing songs they’ve written just for you. Some are sweet, some are silly, some make you want to curl up with a comforter and a cat and cry quietly as you watch the rain roll down your window. Of course, the compilation ends with an original “Happy Birthday” song by Krannielle themselves.

See the full track list and purchase The Gayest Compilation Ever Made, vol. III on BandCamp now — If you need me, I’ll be bopping along to “Doin’ Some Sex” for the rest of the afternoon.

Kaitlyn lives in New York, which is the simplest answer you’re going to get if you ask her where she’s from. She went to journalism school and is arguably making the most of her degree as a writer and copy editor. She utilizes her monthly cable bill by watching more competitive cooking shows than should be allowed.
