Gabrielle’s Team Pick
Ellen Degeneres wrote an earnest, funny, touching and oh so sweet brief to the Supreme Court about gay marriage on her blog, and if you haven’t read it yet it’s about to make your day.

The letter begins, “California’s Proposition 8 is headed to the Supreme Court. Hundreds of companies and families as well as Republicans are submitting briefs urging the 9 judges to allow gay people to marry. I thought that was ridiculous. Why would judges want all of that underwear?” So obviously this means that Ellen reads Autostraddle and is celebrating Underwear Week with us! Right?
She goes on to discuss her own coming out and her super happy marriage to Portia, urging the Supreme Court to do the right thing and “let everyone enjoy the same rights.” Through classic Ellen jokes alternating with classic Ellen tenderness, this letter is just the kind of argument from a high profile celeb that I’d like to see more of. Especially the part where she attributes “We’re here, we’re queer, get over it” to Benjamin Franklin. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. You’ll wish you were Portia.
