On Thursday night, dapperQ took over the Brooklyn Museum with hundreds of queers to host the largest representation of LGBTQ designers and celebration of our bodies at New York Fashion Week. This year’s show was called R/Evolution, and was self-described as “defiant resistance to the attacks being waged against our community and our stylish unified resistance against those attacks.”
These shows shine a light on the beauty in our community and allow us to see our reflections on a stage – something that cannot be said for any other runway at any other fashion week (Queer Fashion Week aside). Mainstream fashion doesn’t represent us. Let’s keep fighting it’s fuckeed up standards.
From the makeup chair to the back of the crowd, here’s what I saw. Feel the magic and maybe you’ll be inspired to put on your favorite outfit and treat your trip out into the world (or into to your kitchen; I’m not judging) today like it’s your own personal runway, as an act of revolution.
