Yao Xiao
Yao Xiao is a China-born illustrator based in New York City. Yao Xiao creates artwork depicting a poetic visual world where complex concepts and human emotions are examined, amplified, and given physical form. Her work has helped people all over the globe connect at unique moments, from the celebration of the 20 Year Anniversary of the SXSW Interactive Festival, to the grand release of pop singer Katy Perry's single 'Dark Horse.' She has created deeply emotional and beautiful graphics for editorial print publications, pop music record covers, concert posters and book covers. Yao Xiao's serialized comic Baopu currently runs monthly on Autostraddle. It is an original comic exploring the nuances in searching for identities, connections and friendships through the fictional life of a young, queer emigrant. A kitty snuggled around one’s head is the best thing.
This is so lovely and nearly brought me to tears. This is also how my cat used to sleep. She passed away in December and honestly it’s been hard to sleep without her wrapped around my head.
Thank you for the kind comment. 🤍My cat also passed away recently, and he used to sleep like this. It’s hard to leave him in real life and then have to leave him in my art, so I decided to keep drawing him. I’m glad he can remind you of lovely times with your kitty.
All of this brought me to tears! Lost one cat in November and can’t think about losing the other 😿
I’ve never had a cat do this (or really be super affectionate) so I’m horribly jealous.
Though I now have another dog who shares my bed, I still miss my soul dog who died May 2021. Pets are so special. I love seeing your art.
