    I saw Come From Away in Toronto over Christmas and I could NOT STOP STARING AT HER. I mean yes, she’s gorgeous, and yes, Beverly Bass’ story is incredible and yes, Me and the Sky is an amazingly powerful and heartbreaking song that I have not stopped listening to since I bought the soundtrack.

    But ALSO, ohmygod my gaydar was SCREAMING at me the whole time! I KNEW IT!

    I feel so completely vindicated right now. Thank you Alaina. This is a great day.

  11. 1st, Awesome list!!!

    2nd, I just have a slight correction: in #8, Bette isn’t referring to the costume designer (Santo Loquasto, who won the Tony himself last night for Hello Dolly’s gorgeous duds). She means Natasha Katz, the lighting designer. It’s a small mistake, but as a female broadway stagehand, I feel the pain of being assumed to be a costumer. What other backstage job could a woman hold, right? Natasha is a giant in her field. She’s been working on broadway since the 80s, and although she didn’t win for Dolly, she has multiple Tonys already on the shelf. I’m sure it was an innocent mistake: costumes make us look great! …but so do lighting designers. And some few of them are women.

  16. I’m still trying to put my finger on what ‘mommi’ is, but honestly I felt like Bette’s entire speech was as close to mommi as I understand it. Someone please tell me if I’m getting it right.

    I started crying when Cynthia thanked her wife and they showed her in the audience and they’re just so happy together and I feel so lucky that I got to see that moment on live television and nothing ruined it and everyone got to be beautifully happy for that one moment and I’m not still crying or anything (and I’m so happy to have other queer people to talk to about the Tonys again)

    Also, three seconds of Robin Wright staring into my soul was worth putting up with three hours of Kevin Spacey hosting.
