The Babysitters Club — in the ‘80s and ‘90s, there was no other series like it. Reading as a third- and fourth-grader, those books promised an independent and glorious teenage future, full of hard work, close friendship, and biking to one another’s houses, with nary a cell phone in sight. The Babysitters lived in Connecticut, but to me, they might as well have lived in paradise. I tore through those books with the fervor of a kid who couldn’t wait for freedom, and I always wondered about the author, Ann M. Martin, who, as the bio said, “lives in upstate New York with her dogs and cats.” Turns out she’s GAYYYY! Because of course she is. So: which iconic Babysitters Club book are you?
