We Need Help: Now Hiring Senior Director of Advertising Sales

For the first time in Autostraddle history, we’re looking to hire a full-time Senior Director of Advertising Sales — someone with the experience and connections to take Autostraddle boldly in the direction of sustainability. It’s an incredible opportunity for a candidate who has learned the field and wants to apply that experience to transforming and improving a beloved community space for LGBTQ+ people.

If you think that might be you — or you think you know someone who fits the bill — we want to hear from you (or from them!). Maybe you’re someone we worked with in the past at another media company who thought “wow I wish I was on the other end of this spirited email chain.” Well this is your chance!

Our future rests in your hands!

We are looking for:

Somebody who’s got experience selling ads for the LGBTQ+ or women’s market in the digital space.

Perhaps you’ve worked or are working for a big media company and want to apply your skills to a noble cause like independent queer media. Maybe you’re a go-getter who’d love to oversee the whole operation instead of being one of many. Maybe you want more control or flexibility in your work hours. Maybe you want to have more fun at work with a group of very funny, weird queer people who care deeply about the work we do and the people we do it for. Maybe you want to literally save the day for Autostraddle instead of contributing to the status quo for someone else.

We need someone who is confident about making cold calls, who can bring in and cultivate relationships with clients who are a good fit for our site, and can spearhead making ad campaigns come to life. We need someone who understands ad operations — who can fill our inventory with quality, high-value ads and book direct campaigns too. Someone who knows from experience which RFPs are worth our time, what content might make advertisers bristle, where to find the right contacts to close deals. We need someone who understands the industry inside and out.

We estimate that a very small number of people have this background — like maybe it’s just 20 people! If you are one of them please let me convince you to work here, I will send you donuts every day.

You Will Make Good Money Here:

So here’s the deal: all of us are working here for below-market salaries, but your case, the sky is the limit!

We’re offering $85k + commission. With 5% – 20% commission on every sale you will end up doing very well here!!! Our very hopeful goal for ad sales in 2022 is $500k.

All of this stuff — your contract, what and how you get paid — we will speak on all of it before you sign with us. We want to find something that works for you. We will work together on it. If you’d prefer a high-salary low-commission situation, we will negotiate that after we get to a place where we’re able to expect certain ad revenue and it’s not just a big question mark! We want this to be comfortable for you and fair for us all.

If you’re interested, email riese@autostraddle.com + sarah@autostraddle.com with your cover letter and resume, subject line AD JOB! We can’t wait to hear from you!
