WE MADE OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL AND LAST NIGHT I SLEPT FOR EIGHT FULL HOURS!!!

Thank you to everyone who gave, shared on social media, or even just offered a good thought up to the universe on our behalf during these last six weeks. And now, on to the news!

Queer as in F*ck You

“It’s hard for him to talk about the days that led up to that disclosure. When I ask how he was feeling, he looks away, his neck exposed by a new short haircut. After a pause, he presses his hand to his heart and closes his eyes. ‘This feeling of true excitement and deep gratitude to have made it to this point in my life,’ he says, ‘mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety.’”

Elliot Page Is Ready for This Moment. In his first feature profile since coming out, Elliot Page talks about his E.T. inspired tattoo, his queer trans childhood, coming out during quarantine, and using his platform as a privileged white transmasculine person to advocate during a time when anti-trans bills continue to sweep states across the country.

And once you’re done reading that, may I recommend the always insightful Britni de la Cretaz’s commentary on the Elliot Page profile and how trans stories are written about in media, Elliot Page Could Embody Trans Joy. Why Isn’t That Story Being Told?

Also(also.also): Halsey has updated their pronouns to she/they!

Usain Bolt and Abby Wambach Revive Gatorade’s 1997 Jordan-Hamm Rivalry (I completely forgot this ad campaign existed in the 90s, and now I have “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” stuck in my head forever)

How To Start Therapy: Life Kit. If you’re interested in beginning the early parts of your therapy journey, may I also recommend the mini-series Choose Your Own (Therapy) Adventure by Christina Tesoro for Autostraddle.

A Celebration of Sex in a Year of Deprivation by Jenna Wortham (!!!) for The New York Times, who had this to say: “For our annual music issue, I thoroughly enjoyed trying to make sense of how & why a song about Black pleasure and desire scored a summer defined by the spectacle of Black death.” I mean, I have personally watched that WAP Grammmys performance every morning this week. No regrets.

The Era’s Revival Has Been Led by Black Women, Women of Color and LGBTQ+ People. The U.S. House is taking up the issue this week after decades of organizing in statehouses.

Political Snacks

“When we say ‘Don’t Forget Breonna Taylor,’ what we are really saying is: Let’s build a world where Black people are not memories, where Black lives are valued, where Black folks feel safe. Making a semi-political meme, or other lukewarm online participation, does not honor or respect Breonna Taylor’s legacy. The fight to remember and honor Breonna Taylor requires fighting for things that have to happen offline, like stripping police departments of money and redistributing those resources to the community. It means not only firing the police officers who shot her, but radically restructuring the systems of public safety in this country so that all Black people can feel safe walking down the street, going to school, or, like Breonna Taylor, sleeping in their own homes.”

March 13th marked the one year anniversary of the murder of Breonna Taylor. So your must read this evening is: The Internet’s Memory of Breonna Taylor by Mary Retta for The Cut.
