NEW MERCH: Scissoring Sweatshirt, “Straddle This” Hotshorts, New Flasks and More!

We’ve made a lot of moves this year to stay indie and pay the heaps of queer women and otherwise-identified humans who write and work hard to keep this community afloat. For example, we started a membership program! The other big thing is that we’re rolling out a lot of fun new merchandise this holiday season and some of it is already in stock. LET’S DISCUSS.

Scissoring Sweatshirt

scissor_sweatshirt_1100horz
You guys wanted us to print on some fancy ultra-ethical Alternative Apparel stuff, so we did! We’d like to see a many people as possible on Instagram scissoring in this scissor sweatshirt (hashtag#scissorandsweat and #autostraddlemerch if you go for it!). It’s basically our best merch item ever.

So get yours: it’s printed on a super soft Alternative Apparel Eco-Fleece Champ Sweatshirt complete with vintage-style raglan sleeves and bound rib collar. This cozy sweatshirt is also part of the eco-friendly Alternative Apparel Earth collection. Illustration by our very own Rory Midhani, duh.

“Straddle This” Boxer Briefs

They’re back! We’ve restocked our briefs, except this time we have purple and teal colors to choose from. These are men’s sizes, so if you’re normally a 2XL in women’s, you’re an XL in men’s. Gettin’ fancy over here.

Straddle This Hot short

The hard femme version of the briefs! Now those of you who enjoy a different variety of undies can get in on this.*

Sneak Peek: Liquor in the Flasks

flask_1100horz
Shhhhh these aren’t available yet, but we’re too excited and had to show you what will be in the store so soon! Here we have some pretty slick black matte 6oz flasks engraved with the “Liquor in the” column graphic. Thanks to Rory Midhani for the illustration!

Look for those flasks in our store sometime next week after the (American) holiday weekend.

PLUS ONE MORE THING!

lumberjanes

Starting today, November 24th, and until supplies last, you’ll get a FREE issue of Lumberjanes #5 with any apparel purchase (yes, this applies to apparel purchases made today before this post went up!). We suggest wearing as many apparel items at once — these super-soft hoodies on sale for $20, these new A-Camp hoodies on sale for $40, the aforementioned boxer-briefs and hotshorts, the You Do You black V-neck (already one of our most popular merch items ever), a Tomboy Femme T, a Misandrist Tee and, of course, THE SCISSORING SWEATSHIRT. Then read Lumberjanes and then you’ll be too gay to function, officially.

If you’re an A+ Member, a heads up that the special deal of the month is 20% off all Autostraddle merch. So yay!

If you’re not an A+ Member, just FYI: we’re trying to reach our goal of 1,000 members by the end of 2014 so let that marinate and we’ll see you on the flip side.

As always, thanks to everyone who reads this website, buys stuff, and/or supports us via A+ subscription. Your support means the world and literally keeps us running. Thank you!

Browse the Autostraddle Store

* We searched every supplier available to us (American Apparel, Gildan, Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, Jerzees, Bella, Alternative Apparel, Alstyle, Next Level, Anvil, Comfort Colors, HYP, Cygnus and Tultex) for cotton boyshorts that came in sizes over XL and it turns out that the women’s underwear industry just doesn’t roll like that. (Sidenote: Apparel items that DO go over XL, like t-shirts, charge us an extra $1-$2 per garment for each 2XL or 3XL we print on [we obvs eat that cost and don’t pass it on to you] so really the game is rigged in all directions!) Apparently XL is the largest a line goes, and if we want something larger we have to go to plus size, which has its own styles/colors/lines, and therefore printing on them would be a separate order requiring a new design with a 100-piece minimum buy, and we’re just not sure that we’d be able to sell that many when the only boyshort-ish option on the market is these, which only come in white! We’re trying to figure out a solution and until then we’re really sorry — this is the first time we’ve printed on women’s apparel and didn’t realize it would be like this.

  1. How do the alternative apparel sweatshirts fit? Are they slim? Or like any raglan sweatshirt you’d buy? Also how are the sleeves? Are they long enough for tall people?

  2. That scissoring design, though. You guys just get me.

Any chance that’ll maybe also turn into a t-shirt in the merch store? Or a tank? Pleeease?

  3. It’s time to make Christmas really awkward! Goal: get in as many people’s photos as possibly in my festive scissoring sweatshirt.

    • I can’t access the store in Chrome (maybe due to an ad-blocking extension, sorry guys), but it came right up in Safari. So maybe try switching browsers, that could be the answer to all of your life problems :\

    • yup. chubby babes like scissoring sweatshirts too, good autostraddle folks, and my tits go on for days, I’m sure you understand.

      The Team isn’t making excuses.

As much as I love the sweatshirt, let’s be honest, I’m not going to buy 4 of them, which is what Autostraddle would realistically need me to do if they went ahead and stocked them. This site already operates on the tightest budget possible.

I’d really encourage others to save up for a membership. Honestly, that alone has outfitted my entire mind, body and soul, time and time again.

  4. I’ve always been interested in the boxer briefs but red isn’t really my favorite color, now that there is teal though I don’t know how to say no. Which is a problem I have for most AS merch. (Not a bad problem to have though since I know it helps this wonderful site)

  5. Really excited for my mother to ask Camille and I are wearing matching sweaters with scissors on them. Really, really excited.

  6. I see a public gram and a epic holigay scissor sweatshirt photoshoot in my future. Hopefully, epic won’t mean us sitting around in pj pants and scissor sweatshirts, watching netflix, eating pizza, and petting the dog.

  7. I don’t have a tape measure so I looked through my underwear drawer to try to figure out what size I am, and apparently all my underwear is completely different sizes?? Even though they are all women’s sizes and all feel pretty much the same? IDK, whatever, I’m going to go buy a tape measure now.

    • I have a solution for this! Volunteers are needed to model each size of underwear and take pics. It’s a win win. Folks will have a better idea of what size to get. And we can look at butts. But mostly, we can look at butts in cute underwear. This would be particularly delightful when procrastinating at 3:30 in the morning.

  8. OMG, I need that scissoring sweatshirt. It’s absolutely perfect. And the Straddle This hot shorts are amazing, too.

  9. Just wondering if there’s a link to track an order after you place it. I ordered about a week ago, and I’m both super-excited and really bad at waiting. Any way to watch my sweet merch make its way to me?

  10. Oooohhhh my goodness! I can’t wait to pair all the new Straddle This underwear with all my different AS tshirts and hoodies (and new scissoring hoodie) and then read Lumberjanes and be content in my extreme gayness.

  11. I was just like “hey girlfriend, how much are we spending on christmas?” and she was like “it will be the set of free weight or the scissoring sweatshirt, probably not both.”

UGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH fitness vs scissoring sweatshirt ugghhhhhhhhh

scissoring is not an approved fitness activity and anyway not sufficient upper body workout.

  12. Huge thankyou for the A+ membership discount; it easily cancelled out the international shipping fees which was a huge bonus on top of a currency conversion.

Do you expect items to arrive before Christmas for international orders?

  13. Hey, there might be an error on the AS Store site. The size chart for the scisorring sweatshirt says “Women’s Size Chart”, but the description says the shirt is “Mens Regular Fit”? Now I’m not sure which size to order!

  14. Whom should we contact if the “Pay with PayPal” link doesn’t work from the merch site after placing an order? :(

  15. Just got paid for a lil freelance job I did, so yay. Putting some of it towards that scissoring sweatshirt. :D

Also debating if I should get it mailed at work. Every time I get a package, my boss always asks what it is. So, uh, hmmmmm…..

I can also imagine my mother thinking, “porque dos tijeras?” and thankfully assuming it’s a band.

    • “Porque dos tijeras” :’) :’) this is maybe the best thing I’ve ever seen, probably because I can imagine my gf’s mother saying this

    • I’m plus size too—I can wear anything from an XL to a 3X in shirts—and I’m currently wearing the Autostraddle “Tomboy Femme” (full disclosure I am not actually a tomboy but couldn’t resist) shirt from Autostraddle and it’s fairly loose on me, that might be an option depending on your size. It’s described as slim fit but I think that’s due more to the fact that is a lightweight material that drapes better than, like, the cheap Hanes men’s undershirts that I buy for $5 a pack.

I ordered the Scissor sweatshirt yesterday and can report back on that if you’re interested and close to me in size! I got a 2XL in the t-shirt and an XL in the sweatshirt. I’m 5’4″ and weigh somewhere around 280 pounds, bra size 40E.

I almost never buy anything that doesn’t have free shipping and free returns w/ shipping because plus sizes are all over the map, but I was pleasantly surprised by the t-shirt buying and have my fingers crossed that the sweatshirt is okay, too.

      • Lady H, thanks for the reply. The things I am interested in the most are the scissoring jumper, and I would LOOOOOOVE those ‘Straddle This’ boxers.

You’re smaller than me in size, but I’d be interested to know the fit… Maybe when they get the 2XL in I might be able to go for it?

Yeah, same here… And especially as it would be international delivery (I am based in the UK) I don’t really want to buy something that is going to be a pain (and expense) to return. It’s just super-annoying y’know? Having to guess that XL or 2XL (or higher!) mean what they are supposed to mean, and not just silly American Apparel sizes.

        Thanks again. :)

        • Hey Sammy! I know it’s a week later, but I just got my scissoring sweatshirt and it’s a perfect, roomy fit so I hope you get this comment. It kept me cozy during a video chat with my evil ex tonight…like cute, dyke armor. :) The XL is roomy enough for me that I could probably wear a button down under it without issue or go down to the L for a more fitted look. I have really wide hips so I’m shocked that it’s not tight across them or anything. It’s also stretchy in a way that some sweatshirts aren’t so I’m holding out hope you can make the XL or 2X works. Hope this helps, and you get to snag something in time for the 20% off to make it worth the international shipping! :)

    • I’d agree with Lady H, I’m definitely in the plus size category, and the 2XL tomboy femme shirt fits me wonderfully, and I usually look for 3XL.

  16. I just finally ordered the scissoring sweatshirt and I am SO EXCITED. Since Alex requested Instagrams, I think its only fitting that AS post a gallery of said Instagrams.

  17. my scissoring sweatshirt arrived today and it is an absolute dream. it took my mum all of about five seconds to get it and she secretly loves it too.

  18. Wonderful, what a webpage it is! This weblog provides
valuable information to us, keep it up.
