I told everyone I wouldn’t write a music fix this week, but then I did.
Fiona Apple’s Next Album Has Another Long And Awkward Title
The title of Fiona Apple’s next album, which might be released in late June, has been announced. It is: The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do. Say that really fast three times.
The Idler comes in at a relatively conservative 23 words compared to 1999’s When The Pawn Hits…Â Okay I have a question for you. Do you think Fiona Apple is being funny? Not like har-har funny, but funny in the sense that she’s creating these really long album titles just to take the piss? I find them quite amusing and have sometimes wondered whether Fiona Apple may in fact be motivated by amusement. Anyway, can’t wait.
Listen: New Music From Beach House
“Myth” is a new track from Beach House’s upcoming album, which may or may not be called Bloom and may or may not be getting released on May 15. Take a listen.
Do you like it? I love it. I didn’t think I could be more excited about their new record but it’s happened, I am officially more excited than I was two days ago.
Listen: New Song From The Temper Trap
Remember the song “Sweet Disposition” by Aussie indie rockers, The Temper Trap? It was the one that featured in every tv commercial, tv series and hip indie movie released during 2009 – 2010. I hope their new track, “Rabbit Hole” doesn’t have quite the same reach. I’m only saying that because I’m rather fond of it and don’t want to grow to hate it in three months time.
“Rabbit Hole” will be a track on the Temper Trap’s self-titled album, which’ll drop mid-May.
Watch: Sharon Van Etten’s New Video
I really enjoyed this new video clip even though I had to keep pausing it to look away from the screen and refocus my eyes. Worth it.
The track “Serpents” is from Sharon’s lastest record Tramp, which is worth listening to if you haven’t already done so. If you have, listen twice.
Watch: Lissy Trullie’s New Video
New York indie-popper Lissy Trullie has released the music video for “It’s Only You, Isn’t It?”, which will feature on her self-titled debut album (April 10).
I have mixed feelings about Lissy Trullie’s music. Some tracks I like, some I don’t, and some I just can’t decide on. This is one of those. Let me know what you think.
