Hi! Welcome to the Audiostraddle Weekly! Very few noteworthy things have happened in music this past week. Well I guess that Madonna thing happened. Did you watch it? Are you sick of talking about it? I’m not typically a Madonna fan and so I was a little surprised to find myself enjoying every moment, even the ones that made absolutely no sense. Highlights included the awk routine with LMFAO, the look on M.I.A‘s face every time she had to wave pom poms, and that time Madge nearly stacked it on the bleachers and recovered like a pro. Have they ever let P!nk do the Super Bowl? They should.
Tegan & Sara Watch:
Last week Tegan & Sara announced that a new record is in the works! The details are a little light, but my prediction from skim-reading the post is that it will be a concept album titled Friday Night Mics, inspired by the wisdom of Tami Taylor. It’s the album that had to happen.
So far 41 songs have been written, but they won’t all appear on the record, no matter how much you want them to. No news on when the album will drop but rest assured that the moment it does, we’ll be here to facilitate the in depth analysis of every feeling and lyric.
2012 Sasquatch! Line-Up Announced
Is anyone going to the Sasquatch!? The music festival held every year at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington, and the line up consistently spectacular. This year’s roster is particularly tempting, with acts like Wild Flag, Metric, Girl Talk, The Dum Dum Girls, St Vincent, Feist, Alabama Shakes, Jack White and Bon Iver on the bill, to name just a few. Watch #1: The Magnetic Fields (NSFW)
This new Magnetic Fields video for “Andrew In Drag” is Not Suitable For Work and so I haven’t actually watched it. However AS reader Jennifer, who emailed the link in, thinks that you’re all going to have positive feelings about it.
Watch #2: Feist
Canadian singer-songwriter Feist has released a stunning music video for “The Bad In Each Other” from her acclaimed album Metals, which topped almost every ‘Best Of’ music list published last year. The clip is definitely worth viewing, however be warned that it depicts a range of human experiences, from happy to heart-breaking, and the latter may make you feel a little sad.
Feist is doing a run of spring dates across the USA, catch a show if you can.
Watch #3: Sam Sparro
Remember Sam Sparro‘s “Black & Gold“? That is a really good song. Here’s the music video for Sparro’s new single “The Shallow End,” which offers a behind-the-scene look at the recording of his forthcoming album. The track didn’t grab me as instantly as some of his other hits, but it’ll potentially grow on me.

Listen: Honeybee & Hers
Honeybees & Hers are a Nebraskan based four-piece fronted by queer musician Melissa Amstutz. Morning, their first full-length album, was recorded over a span of three years in basements, closets and studios. The result is “an intimate collection of seventeen short songs that ruminate on romance, fear, obsessions, escape and longing.”
