Four Femme Ways To Wear Bodysuits This Fall

I’m not sure when they really started to take off, but at some point in the past year bodysuits went from dance-class clothes or oh-crap-my-top-is-too-sheer-for-this-formal-situation-better-wear-something-under-it clothes to actual clothes. Clothes with which I, personally, am obsessed. Allow me to explain:

Pros of Bodysuits:

  • Never have to wear underwear again
  • More efficient laundry
  • Stay put and don’t need constant adjustment
  • Easy to pretend to have “an outfit” or be otherwise put together without trying very hard

Cons of Bodysuits:

  • Tendency of crotch snaps to unbutton themselves during casual conversation

As you can see, the pros vastly outweigh the cons. (The cons can also be partially solved with dress tape.) Below, some suggestions for ways to wear bodysuits this fall.

The Layered Bodysuit

As it gets colder, wearing the most amount of clothing in the least annoying way gets even more important. Why fuck around with a gap between your top and your bottoms or the bulk of having to tuck in a tank top when you can wear a bodysuit (or two) instead and keep frigid winter air as far away from your skin as possible? Plus, since I decided this look needed vegan leather pants, you’ll need the extra layer. You’re welcome.

The Stealth Bodysuit

Maybe it’s tucked in really, really neatly. Maybe it’s actually a bodysuit. The key to pulling this off, if success is defined as “I want to look rad and not have my shirt bunch up weird if I move, but I also don’t want anyone to know how complicated peeing is for me right now,” is to opt for more casual-looking bodysuits that look like regular sweaters or T-shirts.

The Bodysuit As Underwear, Out

Why NOT pair lace and mesh, and probably no bra if we’re being honest, with sequins, metallics and glitter?

The Bodysuit As Onlywear

The bodysuit in its purest form: the bodysuit of your dreams, paired with a couch and no pants.

Wear.

Your.

Dreams.

  1. My dream board is currently 50% bodysuits, 50% jumpsuits. Which are like the same things but one has pants. LIVING THE DREAM

    • Important update: I went out and bought 3 bodysuits yesterday. I wore one yesterday, I’m wearing one today, the third one needs a special occasion because it’s a sexy bodysuit BUT it will be worn and it will be amazing.

  2. Thank you. Thank you. You are an inspiration.

You have also reminded me of one time in college when I really needed to do laundry so I wore a leotard as underwear and people kept complementing my outfit and asking me why I was so dressed up… occasion: no clean undies.

    • Ah ha ha that happens to me but with long sundresses and skirts.
Once I wore swimsuit bottom in January because I was so out of undies and couldn’t do the usual long skirted thing >_>

  3. As a former ballerina I have to leave a tip on the “bodysuit” as actual underwear thing and say get a real leotard from like danskin or something because like a swiumsuit it’ll have a soft panel thing for your genitals.

Secondly I take this opportunity to shill about mens’ ballet tights because they are great, can be worn as pants and are a layering godsend for those of us allergic to wool but have yet to invest in thermal underwear of the cuddle duds variety, or totally have but want to be able to take their jeans off b/c it’s too fucking hot inside and still seems to be in something like pants not long johns.

Lastly as former ballerina I must say of the “bodysuit” as only wear

The mesh row for dancing under the new moon, the opaque row for dancing/romancing, the metallic row for dancing to Peaches and pretending to be a glam rocker.
Things could even go a bit Isadora Duncan.

Beautiful collection Carolyn, thank you for putting it together.

  4. I’ve been wanting to rock the bodysuit style for a million years but have such a hard time finding styles that fit my torso?

I did not think I had a long torso til I tried to find a bodysuit that would fit, y’all.
