GLAAD Announces Nominees for the 2024 GLAAD Awards
This morning GLAAD announced the nominees for the 2024 GLAAD awards which honor excellence in “LGBTQ visibility and representation across all media, from film, television, music, journalism, publishing and more.” This year’s nominees include a lot of movies and television programs we loved, such as Bottoms, Blue Jean, How to Blow Up a Pipeline and Nyad. Notably absent from the nominated films is the widely celebrated Anatomy of a Fall, which has a bisexual protagonist, and notably absent from the top albums is my personal favorite album of 2023, Joy Oladokun’s “Proof of Life”!

Fantasy High isn’t a video game, it’s an actual play. An actual play is when people do a tabletop roleplaying game (usually and in this case Dungeons and Dragons, but sometimes it’s another one) and then it gets recorded and put online. Usually they’re people who are really experienced at improv, D&D, and/or other actual plays, so it’s generally more fun and interesting than “watching other people play D&D” sounds like it would be. Often there are cool miniatures and dioramas and shit to give the more mechanics-heavy parts of the game a visual aspect so it’s easier to follow along. I’m only really familiar with Dimension 20, the group that does Fantasy High among other things, but generally the parties are pretty diverse both in terms of players and characters, there’s a lot of queerness, and f/f romance plots are pretty common. Also in the most recent game (Burrow’s End, which is unrelated to Fantasy High), all the characters are stoats and the first battle takes place inside the corpse of a bear. So that’s, like, pretty cool I think.
