Lizz’s Team Pick
As it turns out, there are only like four pictures of queer people on the internet. Or at least it seems that way. I know because I spend over half of my article writing time desperately searching for pictures of smartly dressed queers to use as examples in my style articles. I also need them to make my news articles look longer (trade secret). Someone tapped in to that void and created an upbeat cornucopia of queer pictures. #1 must have is a fresh new queer photo zine gracing your macbook screens and mailboxes. Based out of Seattle, Washington, it’s a way for A. Slaven and Adrien Leavitt to bring you photo montages that connect queer bodies, faces and style with casual every day activities (with suspiciously good lighting). Oh, did I mention everyone in this zine is bangin’?

About #1 must have in their own words:
This project is about visibility, celebrating diverse queer people, and re-framing the queer experience outside of the victim paradigm often seen in popular culture. It is a way to communicate about non-mainstream queer culture and share empowering images of queerness. #1 must have is a representation, an artifact, and a celebration of queerness in individual terms. We are lucky enough to have incredible love and support in our queer community(ies); our hope is that viewers will find similar empowerment and inspiration through these images.
You can also have your very own hard copy magically sent to your mailbox. I imagine leaving hard copies of #1 must have throughout your friends, parents and extended family’s homes would be an excellent way to come out. Alternatively you could just stick to lazily flipping through the pages while fantasizing about warmer days and cute girls on bicycles.
