VIDEO! Getting In Bed With Kristin #1: Ask Me Anything

Hey hello and hi!

This week I went live for the very first time on Autostraddle’s Facebook page for a new episode of Getting In Bed with Kristin and it was REALLY GREAT. You can read more about the series right here, in case you missed it!

This week we did an “Ask Me Anything,” so we could do that whole get-to-know-eachother-better thing. The livestreams are open to the public while they are broadcast and left up through Saturday, after which it is deleted and the recorded file is sent just to you, you darling A+ers.

Come get in bed with me again this Thursday, 1/19, at 3pm PST, live on Autostraddle’s Facebook page!

  1. Thanks Kristen – love this! Can’t wait for the next one.

Agree about Nintendo tournament at camp. I’d be rubbish, but totally into cheering on other cute people.

    • Also!! The question about getting out of bed/motivated for the day, I just read an article about this and it’s been helping me a lot. I am also a chronic Insomniac and it’s been so bad lately I’ve been sleeping on average 2 hours a night. So this stuff helps me sleep too.

In addition to Kristen’s advice about getting up early to read a book, I open all the blinds in my apartment to let some daylight in (just halfway to let it filter), drink a big glass of water before any coffee or tea, and try to exercise before 10am. Even if it’s 10min of stretching. I also try to get some fresh air once a day (not always easy during winter in Canada though!)

The thing that’s made the biggest difference to my anxiety/stress levels is that I made a rule not to check news sites or social media before noon (or after 8pm).
If someone needs to get in touch urgently, they can call or msg. Everything else can wait.

Before bed I drink some Sleepytime or other herbal tea (not peppermint though, that really hypes me up for some reason – I also have ADHD). I sometimes listen to music or an ASMR video/track which I find soothing. ASMR is all over YouTube for free, or if you just want audio you can get 40-50min tracks for 99c on iTunes.

I am not a good traveler and these ASMR things made a bumpy 5hour plane ride bearable recently.

      Hope that helps somebody!

  2. I missed the livestream (iCal didn’t remind me even though I told it to. Wtf, iCal!) but in case you’re still taking recommendations for topics for future GIBWK episodes, what about a day where we talk about representation? We could talk about why it matters, what it feels like when we don’t have much of it, give suggestions for finding more (both in-person and media representation), suggest books/movies/shows/websites/events/places to find representation, etc.

  3. I’ve recently discovered these livestreams, but, like the commenter in the video, live for Kristin’s f-bomb-peppered rants. They make me feel better. Seriously.
