The A+ Bee Issue Eleven: Bee to the Future

Hi little ducklings!

Welcome to the first issue of the A+ Bee in this new year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. Mine was filled with a lot of baking, and I made a batch of snow(wo)man cookies that were possibly evil? It was the eyes. I ate them anyway, so I guess time will tell how TRULY EVIL THEY WERE. Any-who, here’s the Bee. We missed you guys. Also, if you ever have anything you want to put in the Bee, like a poem or a drawing or boob pics or something ridiculous, send it to us and we’ll include it! Probably not the boob pics, though, just a heads up.

As usual you can download the PDF and hold the issue in your actual, real life hands and then make a paper origami out of it! Upcycling!

    • My brother and I used to make popcorn and mac n’ cheese and watch it when my parents were gone for the evening. It occupies a special place in my heart.

      • I love that you have that beautiful memory of such a cool tradition with your brother!

I was 23 or so when it came out on DVD and my ex boyfriend from high school emailed me after like 4 years of silence to tell me how good it was and that I should see it.

Super weird, but he was SO. RIGHT.

I actually think that’s how we became friends again?

        The memories are coming baaaack.

    • I remember seeing it in theaters in NYC when I was 12 and thinking it was the best movie I had ever seen :)

    • I saw Sky High in the theater because the Harry Potter trailer played before it. It was way better than I expected

  1. Oh no, I was excited about the member of the month thing and forgot to write that first scene of Frost & Delirious from last time like I said I would! I should get on that.

I really enjoyed Bend it Like Bechdel and think it should be a thing that happens again in the future. Also the Happy 2015 poem/story was beautiful.

And re: finding the cat, I’m torn. Because on the one hand a cat needs to be found, but on the other hand that’s probably a job you want to get and you might already be late to the interview (I am perpetually afraid of being late). But also sacrificing your own desires for the needs of a cat? It’s a noble option.

  2. “bae in her bow tie”

petition to make this the title of the first ever autostraddle children’s book?

    • Actually though! For real, I was going to write a children’s book and send it to Autostraddle as a Christmas present but then I remembered it was finals week. (I was gonna call it “The Little Lesbian” though, which isn’t as cool of a title.)

      • Imagine that book though, you’d take the Little Prince book cover and put Ellen Page’s face on top of the prince’s, and change all of the stars to rainbows, and maybe put what’s-her-face from the Real L Word in the corner going ‘This is Crazy!’
Instant #1 bestseller. Every school in the country would want it for their curriculum.

        • I mean my French class read The Little Prince (or rather, Le Petit Prince) last year in class without Ellen Page or rainbows on the cover, so I can guarantee that this is 100% true.

  3. Miss Kitty Fantastico! Does that mean the tour guide is secretly Willow or Tara? So torn — do I go try to rescue the cat or do I stay by the side of the amazing undercover Wiccan who probably knows how to handle the situation better? Probably the latter and then hopefully we can rescue the cat together.

    • And if something happens to Miss Kitty Fantastico, there is a possibility that Willow will try to destroy the world, so there’s that. Better save kitty!

  4. I’ve never seen ANY of The L Word. (except the theme song, because I refused to believe it existed.)

Do I have to turn in my card now?

    • I am jealous, I wish I could unsee that mess. Except for that one time Betty McRae did karaoke at the Planet, that was pretty rad.

  5. In other Netflix news RUBY ROSE IS GOING TO BE ON THE NEXT SEASON OF OITNB AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ACCURATELY CONVEY MY INTENSE ENTHUSIASM FOR THIS FACT

  6. Go after the cat, duh. My cat got out the other night, and it was super traumatic so I may be projecting that terror.

  7. Maybe if you save the cat they will just give you the job because you are so heroic and quick on your feet and ready to just jump in and handle the situation even though you are already pretty damn late like you probably missed the interview already.

  8. Kitty rescue mission is the only option! Does anyone want to come over and make me vegan breakfast while I read Autostraddle out loud?
