When I learned Lizz Andronaco was looking for models for her paintings, I figured I might know a few people who would want to volunteer. That’s right, I’m lookin’ at you.
When Lizz paints she draws on Jenny Saville’s work in terms of style of paint and treatment of the female body, and credits artists Julie Rrap, Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman, and Barbara Hammer as inspiration. Her paintings capture queer sexuality in an honest, sensual way I find both striking and refreshing.
With work that addresses politics, pop culture and religion Lizz notes, “I think comedy is a powerful tool in both life and art because it’s kind of like a loophole for discussing serious matters.” Clearly we here at Autostraddle agree.
