Pop Culture Fix: What Do You Mean a Zarlie Kiss Was Cut From Legends of Tomorrow?!

Stef answered my cry and wrote about Marriage or Mortgage — so I guess it is a real show after all! She’s DMing me right now as she watches the final episode and I haven’t laughed this hard in a very long time. (I still can’t believe some people choose the wedding!)

+ A Zarlie kiss was cut from the Legends of Tomorrow season five finale?!

+ Cara Delevingne was on the GOOP podcast recently, talking about being homophobic when she was younger and her long still-in-progress journey toward self-acceptance.

+ Halsey thanks fans for supporting them after sharing their pronouns.

+ Dee Rees’ Pariah will become the first Criterion release directed by a queer woman of color. (Last year, Drew wrote about Portrait of a Lady on Fire’s inclusion into the Criterion Collection, and how it was something to celebrate, but also a bare minimum baseline that showed how far we still have to go.)

+ Cheryl Dunye wants to create the Black lesbian canon of fiction.

+ Killing Eve will end with season four.

+ Chyler Leigh takes us behind the scenes of her Supergirl directorial debut.

+ Singer/Songwriter Allison Ponthier has released her first music video for her country-pop ballad Cowboy. I love it because I, too, am just a queer girl from the south living and loving like an alien in New York City. And I also love it because my wife edited it, and I am her biggest fan..

+ Eight queer classics to watch at the BFI Flare film festival.

+ Netflix has heard you’re worried that binge-watching is bad for the planet.

+ Cynthia Erivo on Aretha Franklin’s legacy and her new book.

+ Demi Lovato announces a new album.

+ Pussy Riot’s house arrest is likely to be extended.

+ Shonda Rhimes and Ava DuVernay are calling out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — the voting body behind the Golden Globes — for “ignorance and self-dealing” that “hampers opportunities for Black creators like them to promote their work to HFPA members.”

  1. I was waiting for you to mention the cut Zarlie kiss, thank you for never disappointing me <3

But also can we go back to freaking out that they actually filmed a Zarlie kiss and we might see it??

  2. Speaking of Supergirl, is anyone else weirded out by the fact that the show returns in thirteen days and there hasn’t been a trailer yet?

    What are they waiting for?

    • 8 days out, and Same!

On the one hand, I appreciate how much they’ve kept a lid on things . . . but this is ridiculous. Do they (CW) not want people to watch the final season? [Don’t answer that question!]

  3. How did I not know there’s going to be a fourth season of Killing Eve? I’m excited and terrified—I kind of loved how season 3 ended.

Also, I don’t watch legends and only read a bit of that article, but I don’t see how a kiss doesn’t fit the tone of a tearful goodbye scene. Since when? Doesn’t pretty much every tearful straight goodbye scene include a kiss?

  4. The audible GASP I let out at the headline! I had no idea. I do love, though, that this means the writers clearly recognized the sexual tension that had been between the two! And the S5 finale apparently was like 30-50% too long and a lot had to be cut, so I understand why they made the decision. That said…release the bonus material!
