Cruising is queer:

“As queer culture and identities become more integrated in mainstream consciousness, the movement for queer respectability minimizes cruising’s past and present. Corporate marketing campaigns often paint queer women as a monolith and lean toward overtly tender and heartwarming depictions of women-loving women, which further stigmatizes those who reject marriage, monogamy, or vanilla sex. However, community efforts like the @_personals_ Instagram account, though less overtly sex-forward than their historical predecessors, maintain spaces for casual encounters between those who seek them. ‘We’re taught to believe that women who desire women are predatory and shameful, but it’s not predatory to want someone and let them know it. It’s not predatory to desire another woman in a purely sexual manner,’ Long said. ‘It’s only predatory if you are being disrespectful of someone’s boundaries, body, and personhood.'”

Dora Papanikita is a photographer exploring how technology is changing how women view sexual relationships and expression. In an interview at Vice, she says:

“Technology has created constant communication within our generation. I think that’s the first thing. Basically, these days you can’t really miss someone, if that makes sense? You can hear their voice, see their face, and read their words every day. Distance is becoming smaller and smaller; it doesn’t matter if your friend or your loved one is in another city or even another continent. You can still communicate in the same way.

[…] The smartphone has also affected sexual communication as it allows you to interact with your partner or whoever in a sexual way, no matter what the distance is between you. You can no longer even really miss your partner in a sexual sense. Smartphones just make it all so easy.”

Just because someone writes a widely shared op-ed about why we should all have sex 16,000 times a year instead of owning smartphones doesn’t mean it’s not actually very misogynistic and queer-erasing. Plus the math sounds exhausting.

Aorta Films is “a collective of radical queerdos making experimental porn … there is a physicality to their porn that feels rare and precious; special attention is given to the way their performers tense, struggle, or gasp,” writes Kazimir Lee Iskander at Oh Joy Sex Toy.

The first sex robot was conceived in Ancient Greece.”

Here’s one take on why people are into latex.

Some January looking back: Forbes named the nine most important sex trends of 2018. Tits and Sass listed the best writing by sex workers of 2018. Epiphora named the best and worst sex toys of 2018.

Deepfakes, or porn with swapped faces, are as Esther Wang writes yet another way to harass and intimidate women. Here’s why deepfakes are a looming security, democracy, and privacy crisis. If you’re a victim of revenge porn, deepfake or otherwise, your privacy and dignity can feel violated and it can be hard to know what to do. At Allure, EJ Dickson writes:

“First, take a deep breath, and then remind yourself of two things: You are not alone, and you have options.

There are many online organizations that provide support for revenge porn survivors, such as the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI), which provides resources such as attorney referrals, a 24-hour crisis hotline, and a guide to how to remove your photos from the Internet.

For instance, if you were to discover your images on a large social media platform like Instagram, Reddit, or Facebook, or on a large pornography website like Pornhub or XHamster, you can report the photos on the grounds that they violate user guidelines.”

  1. Actually when I read Greenburg’s comment that if you ditched your cellphone you could “make love” 16,000 time a year at 5.4 minutes a pop (so to speak), I thought, once again, straight people are not OK.

    • IELT(intravaginal ejaculation latency time) is not a good measure of sex at all and yep straight people are not okay if they really believe that should be the metric by which they should measure sex.

I’d feel sorry for Greenburg too if he wasn’t such sanctimonious assbutt.
