Hello! The biggest news is apparently somehow still about Elon Musk buying Twitter, but it’s Lesbian Visibility Day and I simply SHALL NOT deal with that. Here’s so many other things to talk about!
Queer as in F*ck You
Lesbian ‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Mattea Roach Just Keeps Winning. Celebrating Lesbian Visibility Day, I know that’s right!! Let’s go lesbians.
The Pandemic Inspired a Cartoonist to Explore Their Wuhanese Roots and Queer Identity. This sounds AMAZING!! “In the funny and heartfelt coming-of-age graphic memoir ‘Messy Roots,’ artist Laura Gao unpacks their relationship with their Asianness, queerness and their ever-changing home city of Wuhan.”
‘We’re Here, We’re Queer, We Brew Beer’: Brewing Collective Wants to Shake Up the Suds Business. So many of my favorite things (queers + beer) in this headline, way to go Canada.
‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bills Aren’t New. They’ve Just Been Revived.
Meet Shilletha Curtis: A Black, Lesbian Hiker Who Is Poised To Achieve ‘The Triple Crown’
Awww graduation season is upon us once again, BYU Graduate Flashes Rainbow Gown In Defiance Of School’s Anti-LGBTQ Policies. “‘I couldn’t live an authentic life for years,’ Jillian Orr said of her decision to showcase the pride colors while accepting her degree at Brigham Young University.”
ALL CAPS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS DEVELOPMENT!!
I will be interviewing 100 LGBTQ elders over the next two years for a project I am calling “OLD & QUEER.” I believe it’s vital to collect stories from our elders while they’re still alive, and I’m excited to share the first one here:

The WNBA training camp is underway and the season starts May 6th, so Natalie and Heather cannot be stopped with the sports links!
- From Heather: How Russia Pushed the WNBA to a Crossroads, “The country’s war in Ukraine and detainment of Brittney Griner have upended the women’s basketball landscape.”
- Which Natalie recommends pairing with this podcast episode from Just Women’s Sports. And as always when we talk about BG, we keep her in our thoughts for a safe return home to her family. Forever and ever.

What It Would Take To Make Us Love Our Jobs Again. Suggestions include “higher wages” and “shorter hours.”
I don’t usually include product reviews, but I actually have been curious about this: Is Lizzo’s Shapewear Line Worth The Hype? We Put It To The Test
Megan Thee Stallion Is a Victim, Says Gayle King. So Why Don’t People Believe Her? I almost didn’t link this because it’s hard where to even catch up Megan Thee Stallion’s case against ex-boyfriend Tory Lanez but saying “she definitely was shot and Tory is trash” is evergreen, so let’s start there.
Political Snacks
The Most Unexpected Consequence of the Texas Abortion Ban. “They’re making a rush decision, and that’s when regret comes.”
I love lesbians. I love us. We’re fucking awesome and we do awesome things.
Something really fantastic happened yesterday, Melissa Lucio (who was going to be executed in Texas tomorrow for a crime that never even happened.) was granted a stay and so she’ll be able to appeal to the court to make her case! I was one of those many people who made at least a dozen calls to the governor. https://msmagazine.com/2022/04/26/melissa-lucio-stay-of-execution-texas-death-penalty/
Also Carmen I thought you might like this; so this film actually came out a year ago, I literally just found out about it today but it’s short rom com about two Afro Dominican lesbians falling for each other, don’t know much about the plot but I’m seeing it tonight and it looks really good! https://vimeo.com/651822621
I do love this!!!!!!!! Wow thank you!
You are so very welcome:) I’d love to hear your opinion on it afterwards!
I read Messy Roots, highly recommend! It’s really funny, thoughtful, and personal with super lively art, great stuff.
the twitter takeover made me wonder about that effect on wnba players and the need to have social media presence. like, it’s been a swamp, and now the owner is even more pro-swamp than the last, so does this matter? or is twitter too small a foot print to affect the calculus given the popularity of other social media…
i liked twitter b/c it didn’t make you have an account to view content, and it doesn’t make me sit and watch junk i don’t engage with. i mean, i just want to scan & go. tik tok, fb/ig, and the other one that ppl don’t talk about anymore are all an investment that is more work than my interest can support.
That Slate article on the abortion laws in Texas was really good. A depressing read, but still very good. It’s all about punishing sex and enforcing control. They don’t care about the embryo’s just as they don’t care about fully grown humans.
old & queer!!! i am also all caps excited! but typing lowercase for aesthetic!!
Did anyone else notice Mattea got the Amazon question correct tonight? So great!
Should I tell my mom that Mattea Roach is queer? Or should I just let her cheer the “really smart girl”?
