Friends, hello, and happy Wednesday! Isn’t it weird how this is the first Wednesday of 2022 but also it feels like the 300th Wednesday of 2022 but also like it is still 2020? The only way I can keep track of time at all these days is by the Pop Culture Fix calendar. It’s either Monday, Wednesday, or Who Even Knows, you know?
+ Aubrey Plaza’s ten best films, according to Letterboxd. Happiest Season is the second worst! Somebody wants to fight you! Also, speaking of Aubrey Plaza, what would you call this outfit? Like what is it? Is it a tux? A tux dress? A too-big tux? I can’t stop staring at it in Getty Images. Kayla says it’s “a shirt-dress with a dress-dress over it and then a blazer-dress over that.”
+ Too many movies right now are “about trauma.” The Matrix Resurrections actually does the work.
+ Why the Gossip Girl reboot failed.
+ Jasmin Savoy Brown and Liv Hewson will be hosting Netflix’s new podcast, The Gay Agenda!
+ Marvel’s official Doctor Strange 2 merch hints that America Chavez will actually be gay in the film.
+ 18 Gen 4 Pokemon that queer people love. (It is true that I love Togekiss!)
+ Are the cool Euphoria teens doing okay?
+ St. Vincent on making room for ‘Daddy’ and taking her ’70s-inspired sound on tour in 2021.
+ Why Becky Hammon had to leave the NBA to become a head coach.
+ The AV Club has an exclusive clip of the new Fraggle Rock!
+ Cardi B. calls homophobes “just ugly.”
I don’t want any more queerbaiting from the MCU! Make America gay, dammit. They already aged her down so she couldn’t be in love with Kate Bishop, who has off-the-wall chemistry with Yelena, thankfully
I saw this tweet the other day that was like “Getting queer-baited by the MCU at this point is like losing at chess to a dog” and I was like “OUCH! THAT HURTS MY FEELINGS!”
If it was Pizza Dog I’d be okay with it.
so many levels on this thread, it’s like a zen koan :)
He is fairly Lucky.
I am still SO MAD that they aged America down. Really ruins my dreams of a Gillan/McKelvie run inspired Young Avengers movie. Also the flirting with every of age woman in the MCU. Also. The friendship between her and Kate Bishop!
Why do you think they did it.
Heather Hogan, if i did not believe that you are happily sports-married to Natalie (who is an unparalleled sports-wife), i would be moved to propose as you have once again gifted me with fantastic sports news – not only is Becky Hammon the the new lva coach, but the other guy is now not. so, many happy returns and know that a random internet person thinks you are the very best.
i also use this website to keep track of the days
Addicted To Fresno didn’t even make the list?!
I didn’t read the Matrix article because I want to go into Resurrections unspoiled, but I really loved this article from the New Yorker on trauma and its (over) use in fiction. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/01/03/the-case-against-the-trauma-plot
If it wasn’t for Autostraddle, I too wouldn’t know what day it is. I also wouldn’t know all the queer media content coming out like The Gay Agenda podcast! 😍 Thank you so much, Heather! I ❤️ Autostraddle!!
Surprised ‘The Little Hours’ wasn’t on that list. Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, Dave Franco, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, and a whole bunch of other hilarious actors/comedians in a weird, saucy, movie based on The Decameron and it’s great! Probably my favorite Aubrey Plaza movie, well, tied with Scott Pilgrim.
Wow. I really loved Emily VanDerWerff’s article about trauma in the new Matrix movie. I highly recommend it for trauma survivors and those who love them. It includes, among other insights, a great description of flashbacks and how they operate, and an amazing metaphor for the ways survivors construct a life to avoid being triggered (my interpretation of her metaphor).
