Potatoes are like, the best thing in the world, right? [Editor’s note: They’re certainly better than hot dogs.] There are like, a million ways to cook potatoes, and all of them are amazing. They’re universally beloved. Like, I can’t even imagine what a person who doesn’t like potatoes would be like. Like, seriously, can you imagine being such a monster that if you had a girlfriend, and she made Latkes for you, you wouldn’t happily scarf those things down?? I definitely wouldn’t want to be friends with a person like that.
So anyway, all of us who are on the Potato side, the Right Side of History, let’s celebrate our love for this starchy tuber (potatoes are tubers, right?) with a bunch of recipes. We’ve got your Yukon Gold, we’ve got your Fingerlings, you know we’ve got your Russets. Sweet Potatoes? Naw, those don’t count. But you we’ve sure as hell got New Potatoes. By the way, I’m from Idaho and in Idaho we learn that you can survive on just potatoes and butter? All the nutrients you need are in potatoes except for a couple, which are all in butter. Is that true? I’m gonna say yes, yes it is.
I hereby pledge myself to Team Potato from now to infinity and beyond.
Oh Mey, what are you doing to me?!!
I’ve been put on a no belladonna related diet for my autoimmune problems and yes, I have to admit it seems to be working but that means no potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant or peppers.
Potatoes have been like reliable friends all my life. I’ll just have to be Team Potatoe, in spirit. These look fantastic.
Same with the no belladonna/nightshade stuff. :weeps: I guess I’m going to have to play for the other team.
this is the biggest tragedy i’ve ever been witness too
MEY! These food feuds are EVERYTHING and all fries should be waffle fries.
You have made my Monday morning. Potatoes rule!
Mey, you are a goddess.
thank you, but I am just a humble potato witch, worshiping at the altar of the Great Potato Goddess
@meyrude can you write an article that’s all about being a potato witch please
Somehow I had managed to forget how good Abuelo’s papas con chile are (it’s been a really long time since I lived in Texas), but now I have the recipe! Thanks Mey!!
There are people who don’t like potatoes?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Potatoes are the best food in the universe. Growing up, my dad couldn’t have potatoes because he was on a low potassium diet, so we rarely ate them (generally just in latke form during Chanukah), but I would always find a way to incorporate potatoes into my diet. I LOVE POTATOES. PUT THEM IN MY MOUTH.
Most important post ever.
Am I sensing a Great Potato War brewing?
(I’m totally Team Potato. Sorry potato-haters, but I’m at least 50% French fry.)
*tater-haters
yesssssssss i’m gonna go call carrie a tater-hater right now, thank you for this gift
70% of the calories i have consumed so far today have been from potatoes. i am still alive.
Potatoes are high in vitamin C and also if you mash purple potatoes they are lavendar-colored which is transcending normal food into the land of food for elves and faeries. They’re very gay in this respect, purple mashed potatoes.
on board with everything except for the anti-hot dog editor’s note!!!!!!!!!!!
hey, potatoes.
FOOD FIGHT!
The town I stayed in this summer had not one, but two restaurants that serve poutine with vegetarian gravy, which I’m pretty sure means I found heaven.
I promise you there is absolutely nothing wrong with this delicious, mouth watering list. Why, I’ve even got a bowl of potatoes in front of me right now!
Except for pouting. Which is an abomination.
-A real live Canadian
Haha, butter doesn’t have enough B12 to sustain you for the long haul, I’m afraid. Even if it’s technically there.
~Interlude~ Vegetarians! Take your supplements! Vegans aren’t the only ones who need a B12 boost! ~Interlude~
ANYWAY: That Arby’s fries recipe brings back such strong memories. I’m going to have to try that like now.
If you’re lazy, you can just use the spice mix on (preferably deep-fried) McCain curly fries – that’s what Arby’s uses.
Mey has anybody called you a genius lately?
I have not read this article and I have just had a very difficult week and am about to fall asleep but I just read this article’s name and little tagline thingy and it spoke to my soul.
From your Potato Soul Sister in Chicago…
I love potatoes so much. My comfort food is cheesy garlic mashed potato. Mash your potatoes with cream, grated cheddar, minced garlic and pepper. Or to be extra cheesy, use cream cheese instead of cream.
But also like, roast potatoes, made by my dad in a Sunday Dinner, preferably with lamb and gravy and yorkshire pudding and ALL OF THE VEGETABLEs.
Or sausage and mash with onion gravy and green beans.
Or poached fish with mash smothered in parsley sauce.
Or a pub lunch, steak and ale pie, dipping your chips in the sauce.
Potatoes for me are more about what goes with them than the actual potato thing itself.
My Jewish roommate moved out in May and this means no more latkes for me during December and it is SO, SO SAD FOR MY TASTEBUDS AND STOMACH. #tragic
These ideas sound phenomenal, but I’d like to point out I’m also from Idaho (born and raised), and I didn’t even see a potato grow until my senior year of high school. #BreakTheStereotype
That poutine recipe is truly a gift! Thank you, Mey.
That pouting recipe is truly a Delicious Gift! Thank you really helpful in bar equipment.
