Avalon Young’s First Gay Song Will Make You Feel Like Falling for a Girl for the First Time Again

Looking to make your Monday a little bit gayer? R&B singer Avalon Young just dropped a new single, and it’s a smooth, earnest tune all about how in love she is with her girlfriend. I’ve had it on repeat since Friday.

Avalon competed on American Idol during its “final season” that didn’t end up being its final season at all. She made it fairly far but not far enough imo. Young consistently stood out with her covers which tended to give off subtle queer vibes, like this performance of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”

Avalon wasn’t really out during Idol. In fact, “Sweet Talk” is her very first song about a girl, which makes it all the sweeter. The lyrics get right to the point: She just really loves her girlfriend. Sometimes just a simple and straightforward song about a gal loving her gal pal is so satisfying, ya know? Avalon practically coos the lyrics, creating a cozy blanket with her voice. Her joy cuts right through the bouncy melody. It feels like young queer love in its radiant sincerity.

My fingers are crossed for a super gay music video to go with it!!!!

I still get pretty emotional when I hear songs by women about being in love with women because hello I grew up hearing approximately 0 gay songs/didn’t even know “Come To My Window” was one until like… college. But it’s a great time for gay music, and I hope this is the first of many queer af releases by Avalon.
