Hello and welcome to this thing we’re doing where we help you figure out what you’re gonna put in your mouth this week. Some of these are recipes we’ve tried, some of these are recipes we’re looking forward to trying, all of them are fucking delicious. Tell us what you want to put in your piehole or suggest your own recipes, and we’ll talk about which things we made, which things we loved, and which things have changed us irreversibly as people. Last week, we ate mac n’ cheese.
Winter is coming. (Is that joke old yet?) And you might as well get ready for it now, during prime squash and gourd season, to maximize your winter soup lifestyle. There’s nothing like a thick, creamy, substantial, or otherwise totally hot soup to stave off the winter blues and keep you from freezing to death!
Lasagna soup! One of the best combinations of words ever :D
Yes! My plan is to subsist on hearty soups all winter, so this list is just what I needed. Thanks Autostraddle, for helping me maximize my winter soup lifestyle.
I made butternut squash and apple soup a few days ago and it’s deliiiicious! It was my first time making it, so I’d make some tweaks for future batches–but what a lot of recipes fail to mention is adding a liiiiiittle bit of brown sugar. It really makes a world of difference.
Where does one buy a fairy godmother and talking mouse for no. 26? Are they garnishes?
Where I live you can’t find fairy godmothers and talking mice in the stores anywhere. Can you order them online?
How did you know I wanted to make soup for dinner?
this whole post is [prayer hands emoji]
ALSO i just want to throw in a commendation for the dried fava bean soup with guajillo — i know it may not look remarkable especially given the cornucopia of soups here, but please trust me it is THE BUSINESS.
This is probably the best thing I will read all week.
I humbly submit one additional soup:
acorn squash with kale and bacon, http://www.marthastewart.com/326547/acorn-squash-soup-with-kale. substitute one cup of water with white wine!
This all looks tasty. I wonder how much it would cost to get a pool full of cream of something soup.
Yum!!!! Soup is the only thing that makes cold weather tolerable. I usually just eat endless cans of Progresso all winter, but these soups look so good I might try making my own!
i just pinned like half of these. you’re a life saver!
I got unreasonably excited when I saw the title of this article. And then even more so seeing all the recipes. Thank you for supplying me with soups to get me through the harsh Midwestern winter.
brb gonna go enjoy my fancy winter minestrone and write a sonnet about it
Someone needs to make a way to delay all seasonal recipe posts by six months so they get to me during the right season #southernhemisphereproblems
I live alone, so I have a tendency to get excited about recipes and make lots, freeze the rest, and then decide to make something new. This inevitably ends up with a freezer that looks like I’m preparing for the apocalypse. This column is a wonderful (terrible?) enabler of said habit
60! This is overwhelming! I want to try them all, but I live alone and only cook for one person.
#22 looks so wonderful!
Heads up: #28 Beef Goulash actually links to a recipe for Tomato Basil Soup…
I’m definitely going to try one of these tonight :)
AUTOSTRADDLE YOU KNOW ME SO WELL!!!
