Hello and welcome to this thing we’re doing where we help you figure out what you’re gonna put in your mouth this week. Some of these are recipes we’ve tried, some of these are recipes we’re looking forward to trying, all of them are fucking delicious. Tell us what you want to put in your piehole or suggest your own recipes, and we’ll talk about which things we made, which things we loved, and which things have changed us irreversibly as people. Last week, we cooked in the name of love.
Ahh, toast. Nature’s edible plate. The perfect base for so many foods, both mushy and crunchy, from sweet to sour. There’s simply nothing that wouldn’t be improved by slapping it on top of a warm, crispy piece of bread. It’s all too easy, though, to give in to the simplicity of buttered toast, among the quickest and most comforting snacks. This week, I want to inspire you to move beyond the simple buttered slice. Expand your boundaries, explore the opportunities your pantry affords you to turn an unassuming loaf of bread (or bread-like substance) into an elegant, scrumptious little toasty treat.
thank you for this thing of absolute beauty
now I know what I’m doing over February Break
I would like to nominate eggs-in-a-hole. You English people may know it as eggs-in-a-basket.
my mom called that toad in a hole!
Mine, too! SO GOOD
this is really delightful!
last night I was kind of sad in a forgetting-to-eat way, but I made a lazy person’s version of eggplant parm (like, eggplants in tomato sauce with cheese on top, spaced out and baked so they become individual saucers of delicious) and had some on toast, it was really nice.
I prefer my mushroom toast minus the toast
All these food pictures are making my panties wet. Thank you for the future foodgasms I’m going to have making and eating those.
Also I know it’s a joke, but like, I really want that $10 toast.
Toast is my ultimate comfort food, how did you know?
Some notable Toasts of my life (besides the-toast.net duh):
-Toast with butter and jam
-Toasted PB&J with bacon (no really)
-Sourdough butter toast with chamomile tea
-Toast with soppy egg yolk and cholula sauce
These are all wonderful. Including the-toast.net of course
Welsh rarebit on pan de mie is my favorite fancy toast
So, I guess no Peter Pan peanut butter?
Clearly, I’ve been outclassed.
Omg that’s what I’ve been eating for breakfast for the past 2 weeks. So good.
it is a known fact that toast is 1) the greatest food and 2) the greatest food vehicle and 3) perfectly highlighted and honored in this perfect post
Yes to all of these. Also: French toast. And: Nutella.
I struggled really hard with whether or not to put French toast on this list. I settled on no, both because technically you put things in toast, not on it, and because French toast really should get its own separate list, don’t you think?
I would definitely read your French toast list.
The sriracha and peanut butter is interesting.. I guess it’s kind of like spicy peanut noodles
If anyone is ever in the Southern Oregon are and loves toast there is this amazing little shop that has all local/homemade things but also serves all manner of fancy toasts that are SOOO good. It’s called Uber Herbal and I can’t tell if the owner is queer or just that Oregon hippie country thing but either way she is sweet and adorable.

That first polenta one is going immediately in my “to make soon” list
really grateful to whoever googled things on toast and got this on my radar
