This episode we got some more ammo for the ‘absent dad equals inability to properly assess situations with men’ canon. It included such gems as “Is it weird that I kinda wanna have sex with your dad?” Despite that, Max’s relationship with Earl is sweet and intimate. Oleg’s pursuit of Sophie, unfortunately, hasn’t humanized him as it has only given him more room to refer to his penis and/or sex. This episode very well could have been one that focused on the story of being broke and needing health care and all of those accompanying frustrations but instead it was mostly about daddy issues. Even the rich doctor had daddy issues! We all have daddy issues!
The edgy joke
Max: Their romantic whispering goes like this. “I own nipple clamps.”
The dark joke
Max: Didn’t have the heart to tell him Cupid is dead. Yup. Hit by a Mack truck crossing the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. His fat, baby, diapered ass splattered all over the windshield.
The non-PC joke
Desk Attendant: …and African-American.
Max: He started late with a honky, I’m one of those combo babies.
The vagina joke
Caroline: I’ve got something in here for you. Guess what it is.
Max: Well judging from that smile on your face, I’d say it’s a finger-sized hole in your apron.
The “is that racist” joke
Sophie: I wish we had black people in Poland when I was growing up.
Feelings about Doctor Dave? Seems to me that he is a dick for not wanting to date Caroline again because of what his peers would think. I’d like to assign that to him as a high society issue, but I’m sure the dregs of society also refuse to date certain people based on what their friends think. I tend to have the opposite problem, because I refuse to listen to what my friends say because what do they know, right? They’re just trustworthy individuals that know me fairly well and are concerned with my happiness and well-being. Why would I listen to them?
an episode that focused on the story of being broke and needing health care would have been awesome and give the show an edgy/current/we-are-the-99% sort of street-cred. wasted opportunity, what a shame….
i am offended by daddy issues
I’m offended by calling the BQE the “Brooklyn Queens Expressway” I didn’t even know what the fuck the “Brooklyn Queens Expressway” was for a second. Who says that?
If they’d said BQE, I would have had no clue what they were talking about. I mean I still don’t but I can at least gather that it is an expressway of import in the Brooklyn, Queens vicinity.
2 Broke Girls is filled with many ethnic slurs……mostly Anti-Polish slurs.
“This episode very well could have been one that focused on the story of being broke and needing health care and all of those accompanying frustrations but instead it was mostly about daddy issues.”
THIS – so much! What a rich mine of material they missed there. And the idea that Caroline could pull strings and get Earl special treatment bypassing what other broke people have to go through is the opposite of what the show is supposed to be about, isn’t it? Aren’t they supposed to be standing up to being treated equally despite class privilege, especially when it comes to health care, which should be a universal right?
Is this show supposed to be subversive about class, or not? The first several episodes seemed like they were going that way, but they sure have veered off from that subject, and what a mistake that is – the subject is both timely and would have popular appeal, given the number of truly broke people in the country right now.
Sometimes I swear this show is about how the only way to get out of poverty is to meet a rich person even if that person is poor. Or something.
I’m secretly holding out for some rich person to throw money at me. I can’t figure out why this hasn’t happened yet. I just feel like if I was rich, this is a thing I would do. Find some intrepid and talented young lesbian and give her some money to create things the world is missing. This same mystique applies to why no one has just given Autostraddle a million dollars.
even just a rich person giving me a free horse, you know? i’m not picky. maybe you can sell those on craigslist!
My best friend broke my heart (again) tonight and I am finally done. I am sick of getting hurt and need my music to help me get through it. What are some goos songs about rejection, having your heart broken, and moving on? Thanks.

is it weird that i want to start referring to myself as a combo baby? because that beats the shit out of mixed or bi-racial/multi-racial. though when you order a coffee in morocco, half coffee half milk(very common) you call it a ns-ns. so i also like to refer to myself as ns-ns. but i’m definitely gonna add combo baby to my lexicon.
does anyone other than me find max’s character overly abrasive sometimes? caroline is adorable though. also i was expecting this episode to be awful but it actually made me tear up a bit at the end, wtf.
I literally couldn’t stop laughing after this episode. “Your friend just threatened me saying she will cut me so deep ill have a vagina.” lmao!!
And the threat of Max stapling the guys nut sac to his chair! Damn when i heard that i was on the floor laughing. Classic stuff right there.
This show is great!
