Amanda Moore wanted to be a basketball player. She grew up in a military family and attended high school in Florida and was eventually spotted when she accompanied a friend to a scouting event. According to Models.com, when Moore walked into the room at a larger event in Orlando scouts had convinced her to attend, “that face, when it walked into the room… made jaws, pencils, and all reserve simply drop. Agencies by the dozen clamored to sign her.” Moore has basically been in all the fashion advertisements, walked all the runways for all the designers, appeared in all the fashion magazines and worked with all the photographers. In 2003, she appeared in New York Magazine‘s Sexiest New York Couples with her then-girlfriend, ex-Vogue staffer Kate Young.

Do you know what I like about this list? For the other Hot 100, I mostly just scrolled through and nodded when I saw someone I recognized, occasionally stopping to read something of interest. This time, I actually get to sit down with my iced tea and dogs and learn about 105 almost all totally new to me “hotties”.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but is Ashlyn Harris publicly out? As far as I’m aware she’s pretty private about her personal life and hasn’t made any statements one way or the other about liking girls.
Yeah, I haven’t read or heard anything about her coming out publicly. I guess I could have missed it but I’m a huge WNT fan so I doubt it. The only thing I do know is that some players on the team choose to be more private about their personal lives and who they are dating. Ashlyn might be one of them.

I’m fairly certain if Ashlyn had ever publicly come out fandom would have had a nuclear meltdown which is why I don’t think she’s ever said. Not that I think she would object to being on this list but if she chooses not to be out I don’t think we should act like she is.

While she has never made any statements one way or another, she has been vocally (on twitter and instagram) in favor of gay rights, in the same way that Megan Rapinoe always was before she officially came out. For example, she posted a picture of her wearing one of the Nike Be True shirts. It may be a stretch to call her out, but she certainly isn’t afraid of gay-friendly media.

Ok, so I’m being just a teensy bit nit-picky here, but technically Ashlyn Harris is only one of the possible goalkeepers for the USWNT. Hope Solo is almost always the starting keeper, followed by Nicole Barnhart, followed by Jill Loyden. Ashlyn has been in the player pool for years, but only recently received her first cap (meaning she played a game) for the USWNT. Being a goalie is tough-you’re always fighting for one possible spot that is rarely subbed out during games.
However, none of this is to diminish her goal-keeping abilities. All four of those keepers are excellent and three of those four are queer. Speaking of queer, I’m surprised to not see Ali Krieger on here! She and Ashlyn are a couple and both currently play for the Washington Spirit, along with Lori Lindsey. I edited this because, as people noted above, it’s completely true that Megan Rapinoe and Lori Lindsey are the only USWNT team players who are officially out. So me saying “three of four” reflects popular speculation, to just be completely clear. That said, until recently, Jill Loyden was living in the same city as me with her (now ex) girlfriend. I know this because Jill and I have mutual friends, one of whom was charged with selling all of Jill’s old furniture when she moved back to NJ to play for Sky Blue. Some of the furniture had come from the apartment that Jill used to share with Abby Wambach-swoon!
Also, Megan Rapinoe’s comment on the photo made me laugh at loud. I don’t use twitter but periodically I check out the two of them because they’re hilarious.

I love this list so much, it’s such a breath of fresh air from always hearing about the same white cis queer women (who are mostly great, but y’know there are other awesome queer people in this world than Rachel Maddow.)
I’m also really happy to see Angel Haze on the list, she is underrated and and extremely talented as a lyricist and rapper. I would suggest a few changes/additions to the bio though, such as the fact that she is pansexual and was studying neuroscience at Penn State before she decided to go into music instead. She’s definitely done much more than get into twitter wars with Azealia Banks!

Maartje Paumen won her second gold medal in London,and was also voted best player in the world for the last two years. Both are out and a role model for alot of gay girls in the Netherlands.

I don’t get it… Models, feminists, actors, soccer players, musicians… Where are the economists? Climate modelers? Mathematicians? People who had to pass math class? Most of these profiles read like a queer studies adaptation of “the emperors new clothes”. Maybe they were all in the hot 100 – I missed that one.
